Hi All.Glad to have found this spot. I am new to the forums.

I've got a 95 240sx with about 94K miles on it. Had a new clutch installed a few months ago after hearing weird noises and having trouble engaging 1st gear.

Ever since then it feels like I am mashing it into gear when moving the shifter into 2nd or 3rd gear. This problem seems to lessen as the car warms up. It also feels like gears are not engaging until the clutch pedal is nearly all the way to the "up/released" position. I took it in for an eval and they are telling me it is a transmission problem - $750 to investigate! Ouch.

Question: Does the problem sound more like a transmission problem than a clutch problem?

Since the problem only surfaced after the new clutch was installed, I was kind of expecting it would only need some sort of clutch adjustment. The service guy says there is nothing to adjust. Is this true?

Thanks!

Was everything installed correctly as the transmission was being put back into place. If not everything lines up you will definately get those feelings. I'm also assuming that all the parts were replaced when clutch changed.

@PA240: Maybe it wasn't the clutch at all, mostly it's the clutch slave cylinder (atleast in S13 models) that causes the things u discribed.

When I did my clutch swap on my S14, I changed the clutch master and slave cylinder. I have no problem with it now.

OK. I'll add that to my list of items to check...

1. Gear Oil2. Slave Cylinder

Thanks!

Make sure to check the clutch master cylinder too. And did you thoroughly bleed the clutch lines? Air in the system can cause havoc!
