I've not been able to get into 2nd gear lately, but sometimes I do. I'd be shifting normally as I always do, and then I freaking spin the engine up to high rpms thinking that my clutch is engaged. I do everything same for the last few years since I had car. It's like my shifter is notchy when going into second. I notice I have to make more effort and step on my clutch longer and pause before I move the shifter into 2nd position. I used to do these things all automatically without thinking.

I know I need a new clutch because I knew the guy who sold it to me lied about replacing clutch. He said it was changed 4 months before he sold to me, but I could tell the clutch was not anywhere near new. So, I think my '93 has an original clutch. Plus its like riding a bronco when I hit a bump while in first gear. And even when I can get it into second I could feel the slippage.

Please tell me it's not my transmission. Oh my transmission whines(sounds like a low pitched whine) when coasting in 2nd.

Thanks

Could be transmission, slave cylinder (air in the system), or clutch.

Also about the whining transmission, could probably be exhaust or heat shield rattle or throw-out bearing

Is the shifter going all the way in the 2nd gear slot if its not and it stops that means your inputshaft and the gears arn't spinning at the same speed so check your syncros becasue they're probably shot.. oh and blip the throttle before you but it into second

often when you have a bad synchronizer, the same things that caused the synchro ring to get eaten up causes the shift collar and matching gear teeth to get eaten up. i would pull it apart and check these parts as new ones are so wonderful.

oh, and check your transmission fluid before you do anything. if you don't remember the last time it was done, change it. and if it was a while ago, make sure it's up to the correct level. if you do these things and still have a problem then you can worry about buying another transmission, which is often cheaper than fixing your current one.

however, used transmissions are a gamble, so sometimes one makes the decision to rebuild to new specs and have a nice transmission for years to come.
