i am going to buy an 89 nissan silvia with a ca18det when i test drove it the other day sometimes the stickshift wouldnt go into gear even when i had the clutch pushed down. the guy later found out the clutch slave cylinder was leaking causeing a loss of pressure so the clutch wasnt working. someone else told me that it might be the syncros wearing out. after pumping the clutch a few times i got the stickshift into gear and when i would release the clutch there was no grinding or it didnt feel like the clutch would slip. any idea if this was the slave cylinder or the syncros. any help would be appreciated

Welcome to NICO Travis.

It sounds like you got a hydrolic issue with the clutch system i.e. slave cyl or master cyl. The tall tale sign is the double pumping that gives it away. you have either got air in the system or a leak. A syncro issue would be a distinctive grind in particular gears every time it is shifted to that gear.
