I bought my daughter herr first car to go to college. a '90 240SX. For 2 years all has been well but she called and says after she shifts and hits the gas the engine revs but the car picks up speed slowly. Sounds like a clutch to me but the's in TX and I'm in Montana. Any chance an adjustment could cause this? The caer has an aftermarket clutch and light flywheel but thats all I know.A step by step on freeplay would be great as detaield as possible since I will be guiding her via hte phone. ThanksPS any honest shop recommendations in El Paso? Tracy

No I am affraid it sounds like the clutch has gone out. How ever out of adjusment free play may have cuased the accelerated wear to the clutch disc. Usually a hurrendous smell is assciated with a clutch that is being "cooked" Has she noticed that at all? The easiest way to check clutch free play is to make sure the clevis is floating freely on the clevis pin and is neither pushing or pulling on the clutch master rod. Be aware though and ajustment at this point wont resolve her problem.
