I've recently have done the 5 spd conversion to my 92' 240sx. For the first couple weeks it drove perfect, easy to shift and no grinding. Then one night after coming off the interstate, I came to an stop and when I tried to get into first gear I couldn't. I could get into 2nd and most all other gears with alittle force but then I had to force into 1st in alot. I find this happens more offten when I come off the interstate or the hyway. After leting tbe car sit for awhile it is normal again easy to get into 1st and all gears, but at times I have to force it into gears. I have forced it ino 1st once and stepted on the clutch and the car felt like it wanted to go. My dad says it's the hydrolics failing, but don't know what it is; master cylinder, slave or what?

Check the clutch fluid reservoir. I had the same problem with my old Probe and it turned out to be low on clutch fluid.

You might have a leak somewhere too.

Are the clutch master and slave cylinders new??

Is the clutch new?? The only other thing that I can think of is that your clutch disk is warped. I have heard of this type of issue you are having being related to a defect in the clutch disk.

When the transmission/clutch starts to act up, if you turn off the car, can you shift through the gears smoothly??

Oh, another thing that you might want to try is bleeding the hydraulic clutch system some more, too. There could be some air still in the system.

if it works ok when the engine is off then its prob hydraulic. the 240 is really bad for air in the lines. there is a metal damper box close to the slave cyl that you can get rid of. just unthread the fittings and bypass the darn thing. then bleed some more. if that does not help you can look under the car while someone pumps the clutch and watch the slave. it should have some good movement.
