Clutch Noise...

well, i have a problem with the clutch on my '93 s13 240sx thats been going on for the past 2 years and once again, no one has been able to help.

well, sometimes when i put the clutch in, either while the engine is cold, or the rev's are up high, there is this whining noise, and i can feel short (fast) vibrations through the pedal, and whenever its making that noise and i try to put it in gear, it grinds. this is usually at a stop, so its usually 1st or reverse. also, when im at a stoplight, or in my driveway, or wherever and im revving the engine with the clutch in, 9 times out of 10, it will make this high pitched whining noise.

now, ive changed the clutch since then, hoping that the noise would go away, but it didn't. the clutch, pressure placte, throwout bearing, and whatever else is included in one of those "auto zone spec" clutch kits was changed, so i know it isnt any of those parts that's messed up.

there's no performance loss, but like my grinding noise in the back of my car, its just plain annoying. thanks for help!

did you get a pilot bushing with that kit? This noise is typically heard when the car is cold or hasent been driven for a couple hours right? After 2 yrs though it might have gotten worse so did it start out like I described when it started happening?

well actually, it started out worse than it is now, after i changed the clutch, it got a little better. it used to be so bad that i would have to wait 15-20 minutes for my car to warm up to even get out of the driveway, whereas now it takes roughly 5.

yes, the pilot bushing was included and was replaced.

AAAH! IT GOT WORSE! i could hardly even put it into gear today because everytime i put in the clutch, it made that damn noise! any help? please, i want to get this taken care of asap! thanks!

sounds like either the pilot bushing iwas reffering to or the T/O bearing. if the noise also occurs in gear it would likely be the pilot bushing cause the T/O bearing winds down once the clutch is released therefore the noise would fall off.

ok, well soon ill be getting a stage 2 clutch, and with it should come the pilot bushing and TO bearing, so ill change it all then...till then, im gonna just have to put up with the damned noise...thanks for all your assistance nistech, i really appreciate it!
