First of all, I have a '93 SE coupe 5sp, with 125,000mi.

I was driving around, doing nothing special. I slow down for a turn, put it into 2nd (but don't let the clutch out), and after I'm around the bend I push on the gas a little bit and let the clutch out. To my horror, it doesn't go - it just revs and keeps on rolling (the pedal comes back up to the top, as normal). So I take it out of 2nd, push the clutch in, pop it back into 2nd, and try again...Nothing. My clutch has been using clutch fluid (had to refill it 3 times in one month), but I had filled it up yesterday...plus the symptoms of low clutch fluid were non-existent this time. The clutch just simply went, without warning.

I've heard that something like this could just be the hydraulics (master/slave cylinders), but I read that it's only the hydraulics when the pedal doesn't come back up (which mine does).

Does anyone have any ideas? I've only had the car for 3 months, but during that whole time period, aside from it using fluid, the clutch felt fine. Could it just be that my clutch is finally gone? Could it possibly be the hydraulics? :help

well, if you keep replacing fluid, in my experience that means a leak. if you park the car in the same spot everytime, just look and see where the spots are collecting. or you can look at the underside of the car and see if its your master cylinder with a leak, a line, or the slave cylinder (if you can see it). but all in all, it sounds like a slave cylinder to me.

A clutch fluid problem or lack of it will keep the trans from shifting. But in this case it sounds as though it shifts okay but the clutch doesn't pull. This sounds as if the clutch disc just came apart or blew the clutch material off the disc.

Hi, I just had a similair problem today:( My 93' manual was very hard to put into 1st gear, im reffering to the shift knob would take alot of force to get it in. I took it to a clutch shop where they told me I needed the master and slave cylinder. I figured they were bs'ing because the hydraulics never leaked which would be the only reason to replace them. Anyway a freind of mine just adjusted the clutch pedal and all was well as far as getting it into gear. So today I was driving and I noticed that the cars rpm's jumped up WAY to fast when I was barely even accelerating and that when i did hit the gas the car accelerated very slowly. It got to the point where I had to floor it just to get it to move at the intersection and at that point it just revved but would not move. I pulled it off the road and had it towed. So what do I do? I have no money to pay someone to fix it:sad. I am decent with mechanics but I am afraid to pull the transmission myself. If anybody knows a good mechanic in the Phoenix area let me know.

I dont know any good mechanics there, but I am about to do my second clutch on my newest 2nd (THAT'S RIGHT, I'VE GOT 2!) 240. Not that hard if you ask me. Just go off of what the installs say and ask for help on the board if you need it. I'm sure enough that you can do it with a couple of friends. I ordered a transmission jack adaptor for $40 just to make the work load easier and shave off a couple of hours. Any questions, e-mail me or reply~!!!

240sleeper, your clutch is burned away, you need a new one.

As for hoojamadingy, like drjohn said, if you can shift ok, then the hydraulics are ok, although you might wanna check for a leak somewhere along the line. The problem is more likely in the clutch itself. You should pull the transmission and see what you can find out.
