ok, so this is a bit of an odd question and i can't quite find a post like it... my clutch master/slave cylinders seem to be going, and I don't know how to change it, so i figured my local Nissan dealership might have fun raping me for it. I called for an estimate and they said parts alone are gonna be something like $160 and labor like $150... but what i'm curious about is, does anyone have any experience with a non-nissan-brand set of master/slave cylinders? I found Tokico online for like $60 all said and done, and some "Sachs" brand for even cheaper... is it worth the risk? and is $150 for labor remotely reasonable? Thanks in advance! If you have any tips as to where else i might get these parts cheaper, quicker or if i'm a fool for trying to go cheaper, let me know!

I did mine in an unheated garage in Maine this winter break when I was home from school. Took me about an hour, start to finish including bleeding. I used Napa parts, which if I remember correctly cost me about 15 dollars for the clutch slave cylinder and 25 dollars for the clutch master cylinder. I might be wrong, but 150 in labor sounds a little ridiculous. I know I used cheap parts, but they seem to be holding up fine (been in about a month). It's a really easy procedure, you might just want to think about doing it yourself if you have some basic mechinical aptitude and a metric wrench and socket set.

edit: my car is a 93, so the prices may be a little different, but I imagine they're very close.

DIY. You want oem parts, I recommend you to go to everythingnissan.com. Great prices and affordable. I don't recommend going to the Dealership. Task is pretty simple, you just need the right tools.

hehe i'm glad i posted this, was almost afraid i'd look foolish for it, but now atleast i know A) the dealership wants to yet again rip me off(charged me almost $1000 back in may to tell me my alternator had a "bad diode" and needed a nissan factory one, no other would do, and couldn't just service the existing one... bastards) and B) the parts really can get cheaper lol... thanks again everyone. as for the labor, i still have no idea what i'm doing but i'll atleast talk to some more trusted mechanics i supopse and see if i can get a cheaper bid
