Clutch master cylinder went out on my stock S13. Before that the clutch worked fine and transmission shifted fine.

Replaced master cylinder and bled the system and the pedal throw is now very short and the engagement is immediate (as soon as I start to let out the pedal the clutch engages). The clutch seems to hold fine and trans shifts with no problem, but the throw and the engagement is, like I said, very short and immediate. Is there some adjustment I missed when installing the new master?

have you checked the slave? if it went out too the piston may be to far out making your clutch seem very immediate.

hm, I got a replacement slave, just haven't had time to put it in. Doesn't seem to be leaking though

i'd check the free play and pedal height. The clutch pedal should be slightly higher (a few millimeters) than the brake pedal. And check free play using your hand, not foot, to feel the slight gap in movement. The master cylinder input rod itself might have some free play before it actually touches the inner piston

If i read you correctly, the engagement position of the pedal is closer to the floor. The pedal might be too low and has no free play - you'd need to turn the MC rod to get that 1mm-3mm play. If pedal height and play are both correct, there might be air in the line (which means the initial pedal movement is actually compressing all that air before actually pushing the fluid). Did you ditch that clutch dampener box?
