I've got a 91 240sx s13. No matter what I do, I can't seem to get the stupid master cylinder adjusted correctly. The pedal is either completely dead (1/2in or more of play, really soft) and doesn't disengage the clutch all the way, or it doesn't open the compensating port or release valve or whatever and the clutch feels fine, but gets harder as it warms up. I've read some things that say the clutch master cylinder on s13s uses some sort of really strange design where the piston doesn't come past the compensating port, so I'm not really sure what the heck I'm supposed to do to adjust it, and adjusting the pedal free play as per the FSM doesn't seem to do it, that just puts it in the "feels good but gets harder when it warms up" mode. Note that I'm assuming "free play" to mean movement with no real pressure at the top of the pedal stroke.

Oh, and the clutch isn't the problem, I just replaced it.

make sure there is no air in the system first.

then, you can adjust it by the small nut were the pedal lever pushes the rod. look under your dash, you will see what i mean

I know how to make adjustments to it. I'm asking how to get it to the correct adjustment position.

you should have approx. 1cm of play before it starts to engage. the engagement point is were it starts to have a little resistance. i find it easier to feel with my hand pushing the pedal.
