I have a 90 240sx original 5 speed.

The past few mornings, I go out to the car and have to put fluid in the master cyl. then pump for a good 10 minuntes to get it to have pressure on the pedal, then I am able to head to work. Though the last morning, I was not able to build the pressure up enough to drive, so I figure it sucked enough air in there to screw its self.

Does this sound like a leaky master cyl. that should be replaced? Since the lines from the master go up then over, I figured if the slave leaked it would not drain the master since the way the lines are routed.

Need help asap!! Gotta head to the store to get what I need!

Thanks : )

There could be a leak in the master cylinder, slave cylinder or the connecting lines that would cause a drain-down of the fluid.

The master cyl. could be leaking into your car, check around your clutch pedal for fluid, mine was. Its like 35$ and an easy fix, while your at it I would bypass the clutch dampener box's it makes for a much quicker bleed time.

I read a bit about it, but I heard people have trouble connecting the 2 lines once they remove the box?

No, its not hard at all, you just carefully bend the line and it mates right up to the other line. be shure to make your bend have a wide radius so you dont kink your line.

Thanks bud, I appreciate it : ) Think im better off replacing master and slave just to be sure, then remove damp box? I figure all this can be done in a single day?

Yeah It can easily be done in one day, master, slave and bypass can probably be done in 1 hour if you got your car off the ground and all the tool's at ready, btw DONT FORGET to bench bleed the master cyl. before you even bother to hook it up, put it in a vice and bleed it with your hands first.

okay Ill explain it a bit better, by bench bleeding it, you will save yourself alot of hassle in the bleeding process, take your master cyl. and put it in a vice, fill it up with your brake fluid, and push the metal arm that attaches to the linkage on your clutch pedal, keep filling it and dont let it run dry, until the master cyl. itself is bled, then take it over to your car and install it, hope that helps.

hello, i'm new to this place and kind of wondering if you can give me some assistance regarding clutch master cylinder leak. i've read your discussion about this and it's very informative. i've had the same problem before on clutch master cylinder leak and i took it to the mechanic and he told me to replace it together with the slave (both are original). the problem starts after a week when the pressure starts building up on the clutch and its getting harder and harder to press it. so i brought it back to the mechanic and he adjusted something. it works for a while but after a week i got the same problem. then the other day he adjusted so low that tonight i can barely put my car on gear. what do you think is the problem? why is the pressure keep on building up? thanks in advance

Actually if your pedal is barely engaging then your losing pressure, not building it, because you need fluid to have pressure in the system and if your leaking it your losing pressure. Its an easy job, go buy your parts then ask questions. welcome to nico.

hi logan76. thanks for your reply. about the pedal barely engaging, yes your right but it only happen now because we adjust it a little bit way low. i already replaced both the master and the slave. and i've been to the mechanic several times and all he do is adjust the pedal height and fro a while it works then there comes the problem again.

I would try bypassing your dampener boxes, and draining your lines and re-bleeding it. Heres a website on how to bypass the dampener box: http://www.zeroyon.com/pics/in....html

Considering your master cyl, and slave are brand new, bypassing the box and re-bleeding the system couldnt hurt a thing, and maybe solve your problems, it doesnt cost anything except for some brake fluid and 20 minutes or so of your time.
