my 90 hatch is having clutch issuses i think? the pin from the master cylinder has a huge amount of free play is there supposed to be a bushing there or is it just worn metal? also the pedal return spring seems like it is weak. ive adjusted the clutch pedal and i think it might be slipping just a tiny bit. do i need to replace the whole pedal or just the spring. the master was replaced within the last 12 months.

there shouldnt be excessive play in the pin between the clutch pedal and master cyl linkage. either the pin is bad or the pedal has an elongated hole, probably a bad pin. pedal return is caused by the spring in the clutch pressure plate, if your pedal is not returning than you either have a bad clutch master cyl or slave cyl, or the clutch is going out. when replacing either the clutch master or slave you should change the other (change as a set).
