To start, I have a 1992 240sx w/ a redtop SR20DET.

I got everything mostly finished with my swap, with only the transmission remaining; all I had to do was fill the clutch master cylinder and bleed the clutch system. I had already filled the transmission with 2.4L royal purple synthetic gear oil, and bypassed that PITA pressure relief box on the subframe.

After filling my master cylinder, I spent about 1 hour bleeding the clutch, with a friend in the car pumping the pedal; I even let it gravity bleed for a bit. Now I have pressure in the pedal, but when I start the car and try to put it in gear, it grinds as if I'm not pressing the clutch in at all, or very little at least. I checked under the car, and when the pedal is pumped, the slave's pin does move quite a bit.

Is there anything I could check, or anything I possibly overlooked?Or could it simply be a matter of air still in the system (hopefully)

Any help would be greatly apprecated

Adjust the rod ontop of the pedal where it goes into the clutch master cylinder

So I tried adjusting that rod away from from the clutch pedal, but to no avail.

I can put it into gear fine when the engine isn't running, but as soon as I start the car and try to put it in gear, it just grinds, and if I do manage to force it into gear, it just stalls.

I'm stuck..

Anyone have any input?

Is it an old master cylinder? If so, it could be bad and needs to be replaced.

Also, make sure you bench bleed the master cylinder if you allowed the resevoir to empty out during your swap.

Is the pivot ball still good. Did you install the throwout bearing properly?

SpeedRacer1 - I never separated the engine and transmission

Hijacker - The master cylinder worked fine before the swap, and I'm not quite sure how to bench bleed; I've been looking around the internet, but can't really find an article on how to do it.

You think it could just be air in the system? When I bled it the final time, the fluid was spurting out, but I ran out of brake fluid, I'll have to pick up more..

If it was spurting, you have air in the system. A properly bled system should always spray out without any spurts, gurgles, or sputters.

To bench bleed, just loosen the line connector at the MC, have your friend pump the pedal and hold, retighten the line. Repeat until you have no air sputters. Make sure you have a rag under the line too to keep fluid off your paint.

Alright, I'm in the process of bleeding out the clutch, I'll give it another few hundred pumps, and try bench bleeding it. I tried starting it today while in gear, and it did roll.

Thanks again Hijacker, and everyone else as well
