Hey everyone, I've had my 3.5 6mt coupe for a year now and love the car. However, over the past month, I've been having clutching issues. The clutch finally went 2 weeks ago - while the dealership was test driving it. My dealership told me it was the way I drive, but I have always driven a mt without issue. I looked into it a little further and found that another 3.5 6mt coupe sold in my area also had a clutch go out. Has anyone on here had any sort of clutch problems with their 3.5? I really want to get this straightened away since it's taken my dealership over a week to get the parts and fix my car - and I still don't have it back.

Great site - wish I wouldn't have waited so long to join up.

My buddys 2.5 clutch blew out about 2 months into owning it. The dealership blamed it on him. Pretty garbage, but its such a touchy subject, you really cant prove you drove the 6 speed correctly, ya know?

Zeroid - The transmission fluid doesn't touch the clutch Its only for the synchros and gearing in the transmission case. So that wouldn't resitally do anything in his situation

The main problem I had was major slipping - which cause the classic smell of burning clutch. The dealership told me that when they took it on the roadtest, on the way back, they had to drive with the windows open b/c of the smell.Of coarse my car has to be the test mule b/c they keep finding parts that they didn't order/didn't know they had to order and parts that they didn't know existed. To add to all the B.S. when I called them today, I was told the clutch was back in but now the transmission was making a "whining/whirling noise" - (it didn't do prior to them touching it). So now, the shop has to call Nissan Canada so see what they did wrong.

Thank Goodness it's all covered by warrentee.

search for a clutch problem thread i made...went thru so much garbage

i had my ENTIRE CLUTCH replaced (atleast most of it) still no good

i think it has something to do with my cars frame work holding the clutch in tacked...

clutch noise and failure to pump all the way back up (50% leverage). Clutch squeeking/creaking noise is always there, and the spring action of the clutch is once every blue moon (let say 200km)

Im taking to the dealership again, they replaced MasterCylinder one time, clutch pedal one time, and then the third time they replaced almost everything...

Still no go, i wonder if the LEMON law applies to canadians...and to a clutch

ask them to use the 09 clutches for your 08 altima as they have been improved and work better now.

just so you know, my 08 clutch still works perfect but nissans clutch are known to be cheapo sometimes

Don't worry, your CVT will fall apart soon enough

The G and Z guys constantly have weird clutch issues. Most of them are chatter related. I read somewhere that the clutches used on our cars were much smaller in diameter than they usually are for the power. Kinda makes you think.

4,000 miles with 6lbs. boost = zero factory clutch issues. i can tell the clutch is weak, but it's still holding up like it was new off the lot. jwt clutch will = more boost =)

So what started out as the clutch going out has turned into so much more. I stopped by the dealership today to get an update and got the "sh**y news of the week" The transmission in my car is now toast. After the clutch was installed and the mechanic went to take it on it's first new testdrive, the main bearing in the clutch shifted and seized forcing all the power to the transmission at an improper angle and made my locked my transmission up. So now, on order, is yet another clutch/flywheel, and now a new transmission - and another week without my baby (if all goes well) - bringing the grand total of time without my ride to 4 weeks.

My clutch started a small grind, only going into 4th gear, literally 3 weeks after I bought my A/C. I brought it back to the dealership and through my "angry face" on and they basically called NIssan Hotline, Lied to them and said they took my transmission apart and found nothing wrong with it in order for them to ship a brand new transmission form California. They swapped it out a week later and the grnd was gone, but they installed one fo the tubing going to the master slave wrong and I was leaking fluid for 2 days. Eventually in the middle of the road my clutch gave out and sunk to the floor and wouldn't come back up. I had to manually pry it back up with my toes in order to get 1 shift. It was one of the most dangerous driving I've ever done in my life- I had basically a half an inch of working clutch left and with the 3.5's power I was launching like crazy. I called Nissan furious and they towed and gave me a rental on the spot and replaced the part and now it's been perfect for about a month or so.

That's my story.. hope you never have to go through that crap.

So after a grand total of 32 days in the shop and 46 long days of being of the road ... My Baby is back home where she belongs.

Final damages ... 2 new clutches, 2 new flywheels, 1 new transmission, 1 set of new halfshafts and 1 bill for $760.35 (my rental car) - which I had the pleasure of handing over to the service manager personally.

And to top it all off, they sent me home with one of the "rate your local dealership" forms.

SOLTY!! can u email me exactly what parts were replaced? when this was done? which dealer, name of the service manager?

I WOULD BE SUPER PLEASED IF I COULD GET THESE INFO

im goin thru CAMVAP soon, becasue dealer replaced every part in the clutch and the clutch is still bad (noise and failure to spring back up completely at random times)

my dealership is a ***** too, and since you have a canadian coupe, that means nissan canada cant give me the "cars in the states are different from cars in canada..."

think an aftermarket clutch would fix the issue. maybe something out there that would work better then the stock.

You bet - my work order/paperwork was still being finallized when I pickup the car b/c they wanted to make sure I didn't have any other problems with it. As soon as I get a complete work order, I'll pass it along. What I do know for sure is that my dealership was on the phone with Nissan Canada after they installed the first clutch.

I wanted a stiffer clutch with heavier springs but aftermarket clutches aren't installed on warrentee work.
