The other day, I noticed that the clutch was starting to grab at the very bottom of the pedal movement. I checked the res. and found that the fluid was very low, so I filled it up and then adjusted the small bolt connecting the pedal and MC by rotating the bolt. I then took it for a spin and found that it engaged even lower, but the play was removed from the pedal. There is only about .5 cm left of thread for me to loosen the bolt as well. The fluid was very dark when I checked it before I added the new fluid. Also, I had a mechanic change the slave a few months ago and he had to have filled it. When I did an oil change the other day, I didn't find any leaks anywhere. It seems that someone removed the clutch damper before me, meaning that it can't be a source for fluid to leak from.

Do you have any suggestions?

If your fluid was low, that's already pretty strange. I'd take a look around a bit more to see if there's a leak somewhere or a crack in one of the hoses along the way. Another thing to look for is a possible bent fork and to see if you've air bubbles if your reservoir went low.

Check the inside of the firewall for fluid underneath the carpet and padding. If you find any, time for a new master cylinder.

if you still have the clutch damper box still hooked up in-line, get rid of it.

i'm starting to have the same symptoms... & that again useless thing is in the way.

It's already been taken out; that's the first thing I checked. I'm going to try bleeding the system and see what results from that.

I just bled it today and it still grabs at the very bottom. The one thing that was strange was that the fluid was very dark and not clear. I checked the lines and there were no spots where it was wet. The slave was replaced by the mechanic a few months ago. Time for a new master?

I appreciate that. What condition is it in and how many miles? For the S13 correct? I might be passing by in a week, and if I definitely am, I will call. Thanks.

I would recommend replacing both the master cylinder and slave cylinder especially with the fluid being so black, every time I replace just one of the two it always seemed at the one I didn't replace would go bad and they especially like to do it when it's cold outsideand I noticed your from New York!!! it gets cold up their.
