Lately i've been driving around and noticing that when i take off from a stop light and try to pick up speed, as i push the accelerator, the engine revs a lot before it actually picks up speed. it just recently started doing it. i can take off from first and then when i shift into second, it revs a lot then the rpms go down and they rise along with my speed. its almost as if the clutch is still engaged or pushed in. anyone else have this problem or know if it is the clutch. thanks

i dont have a whole lot of experience with cars yet so dont take my input as definate truth.

but im pretty sure that you're right in assuming its your clutch. what its doing when it revs up but your speed doesnt rise with it is called "slipping". im not sure the exact cause of this, whether its the clutch pressure plate is worn out or the disc is worn down too much, but either way it would be a good idea to go out and get yourself a new clutch before your left completely unable to engage :P it'd be real bad if that happened in the middle of a busy intersection :O

hope this helps, and hopefully someone a bit more knowledgable will lend us their experience on the subject as well. good luck man :)

you need a brand new clutch plate. its also a good idea to have the flywheel machined.

i'm taking it in to the shop to have it looked at. I really hope its not the clutch, i really hope they say i need a new transmission and for some odd reason the engine is going out so i can get my CA18 sooner...hehehe... But the thing is, the clutch engages, but when i take my foot off the clutch pedal, it is as if the clutch is still engaged. i was also thinking it could just be the linkage cable and it might need adjusting. we'll find out tomorrow. Thanks for the info guys

Is it hard to replace the clutch? And do you have to replace the entire assembly or certain parts?

Its hard doing it alone and without a lift. well, just more laborous. The trans. is pretty heavy and akward to move under the car if its just on a jack. To change it out, you need to replace the pressure plate, clutch disk, throw out bearing, and check the flywheel. you can have the flywheel resurrfaced or replace it with a lightweight one. the clutch assembly just kinda fits right in, you do have to set it in correctly though. there are other things that need to be done too, like the disconnection of wires and the slave cylinder on the trans. its not difficult to the point where only a technition can do it, but its a lot easier if you have a lift and experience.

I just had my clutch replaced a couple weeks ago and it does the same thing. Under hard acceleration, mainly shifting from 2nd - 3rd and 3rd - 4th. I'm thinking it just needs to be broken in more. :rolleyes :rolleyes :rolleyes :rolleyes :rolleyes :rolleyes :rolleyes :rolleyes :rolleyes

well, i just got back from the shop. The guy there said it sounds like a new clutch, he said it might need a little adjusting, but odds are its the clutch. oooohhh well...

As for the guy who just replaced his clutch, see if the linkage needs a little adjusting.

i have just had the exact same problem that u descibed megaseth.... i'm getten my clutch right now and it replaced it with a factory clutch which cost me $135 in total my mechanic also said i should replace the rear main seal because my car has high miles on it and if i didn't and that seal fail ok me, i would ruin my new clutch... so in total it cost me about $170 for the parts but labor is another price and it'll depend on who's doing it for u... good luck ;)

I was just gonna post the similiar problem I am having, thanks guys, a new clutch it is! Isn't the shifter supposed to also get stiffer, cause mine isn't? Sorry, this is the 3rd manual transmission car I've owned, but I haven't had to change the clutch on any previous ones. Does anyone know if the KA clutch can be used with an SR or RB motor? I've also heard that ACT makes really good clutches, any other good companies to inquire about, or is OE good enough? Not planning to tune this motor to much, so I guess OE is the way to go, huh?

thanks again, much appreciated.

ACT makes good clutches, but they'll tear up your flywheel. if you dont plan on racing then its not a good choice. if you just use it as a daily drive then OE is good and from what i can tell Centerforce clutches are good if you dont use them to race. BUt if you do plan on racing, the ACT is good and i've heard SPEC clutches are good too, and a little cheaper than the fore.

Well, i got my car back today with the new clutch. I drives like a new car. i didnt even know how bad the old one was until i saw the pressure plate and the disk and was told that the throw out bearing was falling apart. The disk was almost warn to the rivots and the pressure plate had burn marks on the inside. The new clutch makes the car drive like wonders, and now it doesnt shake as much with is great. WOOO HOOOO!! riced out civics, here i come

500 mile break in, DON'T screw around, don't go really fast. I never took mine over 4k, and it broke in beautifully.
