has either one proven to be better than the other at cooling? 75% city driving and 25% highway

the socal summer is really killing me

I think you mean FAL210

I would get a FAL150, it flows more air and takes less amperage. Hey it's even cheaper, and I own one for those reasons.

The electric fans will work better, provided you have them setup correctly.

If you wanted budget you can opt for some OEM fans from the FWD cars.

The thermostat switch.

Some people don't bother and just run the fan constantly. Fred's old S13 did this and it was a pain to keep warm even on 60 - 70 degree days.

I live in socal

the usual temperature around here is 80 and 90 ish during the summer

fal 210 + koyo isn't doing it for me. the power is directed connected to the ignition

I remember reading something about clutch fan > fal due to the shroud set up

yesterday, while in a shop, 2 people who has redtop and clutch fan said they don't an issue with clutch fan

The FAL 210 isn't that great of a setup for RWD cars where you have the space for better fans. They were designed for FWD cars where spacing between the turbo and the radiator gets tight.

I don't understand how you can have an issue with overheating with mild temps like that. I think you need to re-evaluate your setup in terms of mediating airflow to the radiator.

80-90? Try coming to the desert and experience the 100+ degrees here! Anyhow why isn't your combination cutting it for you? Overheating? Aftermarket coolant temp gauge?

I have these small spal fans that doesn't even look efficient compared to stock sentra e-fans and I have them on constant and no problems here. My coupe that I sold to my brother ran that same sentra e-fan setup on a koyo radiator with no problems and I installed the stock fan shroud + fan on there and runs the same. No difference at all.

sorry, I meant 90 to 100c of late

the ecu registered averge 85C from the stock sender and 90c from the hot radiator hose

if I run it for too long in the afternoon it'll get to 90c from stock sender and 100c from the hot radiator hose

What kind of coolant are you running and what mixture?

Explain your entire heat exchanger setup (I/C, Rad, Coolant Mods, etc.), and your typical drive where it hits 100c.

Actually, a Koyo radiator + FAL-210 + a way to control those fans (like the Greddy Multi switching system, or the HKS fan controller) is a good setup. The stock fan controller that comes with the 210s is pretty crappy and everyone I've known had problems with that stock controller.

not sure what you mean by explaining setup, you mean list of my mods?-replaced oem thermotstat a year ago-fal twin fan connected to ignition-koyo aluminum radiator-samco silicone coolant hoses -25% coolant 75% distilled water + redline WW-ngk iridium cold plugs-greddy fmic with stock present, not much air flow to radiator since ac condensor is in place

if I get to drive fast on the freeway I don't have much a problem, but my driving is mostly restricted to stop and go traffic, a lot of idle times, usually that's when the heat rises

would retard/advance timing be a tempoary fix for my problem?

i had a perma cool fan in my car and i kept having a problem with my car trying to over heat, in stop and go traffic.. and thats with out my ac on.. with my ac on i could go maybe 20 mintues and it would over heat.. i got rid of my perma cool fan and got a 92 ford taurus with 3.8 fan. and now i can run around all day with my ac and my never over heats. and that in 100 + heat. trust me it pulls some major air.. and only costs about $50 at the junk yards

Clutch fan definetely has to go, I am changing mine out soon. Dont get the slimline fans, I have (2) buddies that have had bad experiences with them..1 motor shot after a week and the other caught on fire....Primera fans are what I am going to use. I have a couple buddies using them. SOmetime they are easy to find in the junkyard and fit well with Koyos and S13/14 Radiators...just my.02lateDaryl
