I have the stock clutch fan on my ca and before i could stop it with my hand if the car was idling. for example if it hit something it would stop. But recently i started hearing a loud blowing sound when i rev my engine and I was trying to figure out what was going on. My clutch fan was extremely tight and I could barely spin it with my hands when the car was off. Has this happened to any one? is that right?

I think the clutch on that thing is frozen.

Thanks

x2, probubly the best bang for the buck cooling mod you can do. even if it's just an altima or taurus fan or something, just ditch the clutch fan.

I'm running a single dodge caravan fan and it works great for me. I got it for free out of a wrecked one at my exgirlfriend's house.

Keep in mind an electric fan (by itself) is worse then a properly working clutch fan and radiator shroud.

So if your clutch fan is in good working order (and you still have the radiator shroud), keep it!

yeah, screw the clutch fan. it may work well but its a hassle. i doubt it pushes the ridiculous amount of air my permacool 14" job does.

Yeah, can't beat the Permacool.......it pulls 2950 cfms, enough that it will hold a piece of paper to the grille......and thats pulling air through a front mount ic, front mount oil cooler, a/c condenser, and the radiator. When I lived in CA, I never had any cooling problems in 110 degree days.I do use the stock shroud, only because it seems to keep underhood temps down since it directs the pulled air towards the engine, instead of everywhere.Anyway, here is my set-up......the pics are old, shows my ca18et......but i currently have the same fan and shroud set-up with my ca18dethttp://www.cardomain.com/ride/675796/4

If you really want it, I have the clutch fan that came on my motor, just pay shipping and it's yours

Whatever you use, you still need a radiator shroud :P

You don't need it, it's just better.

I suppose you could put it that way...

Sorry If I seem biased against thermo fan's. It's just that i've never really seen the point of spending the $ for them.

Also keep in mind that keeping the stock undertray attached (plus even bothering to have one of those radiator air diversion panels) will make a fair difference.

I can guarrantee that with a decent radiator (R32 gts-t+ cleaned), radiator shroud, clutch fan and undertray you will have no overheating issues.

Because keep in mind, its all about low/high pressure areas and not only about flow.

Very true.....but that only holds true while moving.........which if you have an effecient radiator, and a shroud, and belly pan you don't need any kind of fan at all while driving over 30mph or so. I replaced my clutch fan for an electric fan years back only because of the drag the clutch fan made when it was engaged on triple digit days when I lived in Sacramento. I could really feel a decrease in power when that thing was engaged, plus it was noisy, like a fixed flex fan. With my electric fan, it only comes on and cycles while sitting in traffic, then as soon as I get above 20 mph or so, it cuts off, and it never comes on while cruising....even on triple digit days with the a/c. Worth the $$ in my opinion
