Hey guys, last night i was driving around fine, stoped for gas, and when i turned the car on again after refuling it felt really really bogged down by sumthin, not terribly, but it was noticable. So i curse the gas station and the awfull fuel they gave me and went on my way. I drove about 30 miles and went home. That next morning i poped the hood to check oil and things, as usuall. And lo and behold, i found the clutch fan leaning up against the pully with shards of plastic all over my engine bay. I thought to my self "Lol! well that'll do it!". So now i have to go about either replacing it or fixing it or getting an E-Fan. I would kinda rather keep the clutch fan cuase i dont wanna put out the money for an E, with christmas coming up and all.

Since Chilton's explanation on the fans are about as detailed as a retarded person explaning nucleur fusion, i was wondering if any of ya'll had experience in putting them back on. Thanks

you can find fan clutches pretty cheap. check out ebay. There might be some up there. If not, check your local junk yard. I don't know where my couple spare went, but if I find it, I'll let you know. If you do decide to go with the e-fan, they'll be a good investment as they can carry over to any new engines you may install since it seems like you're dissatisfied with your E. Personally, I think the E is a pretty good lil engine for the daily grind and what not. It has served me well and I'm fairly confident it will continue to until I install my sr20.

No i love my KA24E, its just that i dont have the money right now to put out for an electric fan. Do you know if there is a rebuild kit for these fans? It doesnt seem like the parts are "damaged" to bad, its just the thing fell off. lol.

not that i know of. sorry to hear about that too. well, i've only got one spare fan clutch, not the fan itself, unless the one from the sr20 will fit but that I've not checked, and I'm dead tired from being in the theater for about 4 hours after waiting outside for about an hour and a half only to find that the new LOTR movie doesn't follow the book all that well. *shakes fist*

I took mine out and it shifts better actually. I just put the bolts back on after I took it off. There is a bunch of guys here who have done it, and told me to do it. It doesn't hurt anything and it accelerates faster.Josh

The car will only overheat if you sit too long in one spot. As long as you keep going, the air running through the radiator will outflow any fan. I took mine off when i changed my water pump. Still waiting to get a e-fan.

find an altima, jack the fans out of that

i had A/C in my 240 which i promptly removed, and relocated the e-fan as a puller on the back side of the radiator. 8K miles, most of it pushing it, never one problem.

Here is your solution:

Go to the junkyard and find an efan that fits the general dimensions.

Rig a bracket with plumber's strap unless you can fab the bracket out of aluminium.

Wire it on a bosch 30a relay to come on w/ the ign.

efan = 10 - 15 bucksrelay = 2 - 3 bucksplumber's strap = 2 - 3 buckslabor = free (diy)A 240 without a clutch fan and it doesn't overheat = priceless

Yes I am telling you that I took mine out. I have never had one problem with it running hot or overheating. It runs fine, better in my opinion. Like I said before it accelerates a little faster now. ( A little)Josh

Stanza fans will work just fine for you, too. I got the whole setup from a Stanza, both fans with good motors and their mounting for 50 bucks. I did sort of what Camel said, but a little more complex, my setup involves two control circuits to make use of the different fan speeds, a thermostatic switch, a dash-mounted toggle switch, and a 30A relay. Details are on the Projects page at my website (sig)

I have a clutch fan from an SR20DET. It fits the KA just fine. I actually bought a new fan from Nissan for the KA because the old one shattered, and put a dent in the hood! I think the fan failed quite often, when I went to get one fron a local salvage yard, no one had one. When I got the new one from Nissan, it was a completely different design. Molded differently and had 8 blades, my stock one had seven. When I put the SR in, took the brand new one off the KA and threw the stock SR fan on the shelf.. Let me know if you need it...

Dont listen to these people who say convert to electric, its just more hassle, and more to break on you later. There are aftermarket clutch fans as well as the stock one GTR-33 has. They are all good enough, and take only minutes to install. (the accelleration difference is marginal anyway)

Every little bit counts. And it is not really acceleration, it frees up the motor to rev up a little faster and not lose so much momentum during shifts. If you are not concerned with that, then replace the clutch fan by all means....

I had an aftermarket fan clutch installed on my car this past wednesday and paid $64 CAN for the part. The clutch went bad on mine and so did the bolts holding it. Which by the way was cause for a Horrendous rattle (if anyone is trying to find a mysterious one...). I'm no mechanic but just losen the belt and plastic shroud on either side of the fan and you should be able to slip in off and on in a few moments.

More to break? We're talking a pair of electric motors here, it's not especially complex. In my experience they're much more reliable than the fan clutch. The electric fan setup is just about my favorite mod I've done, the cooling in traffic is so much more effective, there is so much more room in the front of the engine bay, and I no longer hear that annoying fan clutch whooooosh on startup and on warm days.
