Ok on the 91 240sx KA24DE there is a clutch fan and also a radiator fan. I noticed that the clutch fan works all the time but what is the rad fan for?Does it start working if it gets too hot or something?

The Radiator fan cuts on when you turn on your A/C. That way there is always enough air being pulled to both cool down the radiator and the A/C condensor at idle.

Actually, a combination of both. A/C or thermal sensor (high temp) kicks on the electric fan.

your clutch fan should not always run it should cut in and out by temperature.

Wait a sec, the clutch fan is connected to the water pump, clutch fan is belt driven, so it is always running, well when the engine is running..

then why would it have a clutch?????????????????If it didn't have a clutch then it would run all the time.Maybe you had better check yours.

Right..

The Belt actually turns the waterpump pully....Then the clutch sits on the water pump pully, and the fan is on the clutch. The clutch is supposed to disengage at low temp , allowing the waterpump pully to be turned without turning the fan.

My clutch fan runs all the time. Always has. In fact, I didn't even know there was a clutch until I started reading the forums.

I don't see it as a problem, except it takes forever for my engine to warm up in the winter. Maybe that's why my car is so slow.

Your waterpump will wear out faster if the fan stays on all the time. And at high speeds it can actually be a flow restriction....the fan cannot pull air nearly as fast as the air flowing in at say ...55 mph and higher. so theres gonna be this backwashing ...wierd surging air mass thing all up in ur fan makin ur fan be like WTF

Think trying to inhale with your head out the window at 80 mph with the wind blowing in ur face...kinda like that.
