I'm starting to consider what type of clutch I'm going to need for my turbo project.

It's my understanding from reading other posts that the stock clutch won't last that long above 250HP or so.

My clutch is new but not OEM so I'd imagine I'm looking at a new one.

I've seen some on ebay that look reasonably priced. What are my options here, how much will it cost and how difficult is the swap?

"I found the search button ma'!" That being said.

Most of this is based on your perspective.

Application: Do you want it streetable? Drag? Somewhere in the grey area? Just don't buy those Ceramic/Organic mish matches, they get the worst of both which is bad all around. Besides that, you have a lot of choices.

Cost: Depends on Application and your willingness to settle.

Difficulty: Depends on your skill. I don't know you (trying not to be an a**). I've never done it (noob here), so i'd need help. I personally wouldn't buy off ebay, but whatever floats your boat and doesn't sink your canoe (that's just me).

just get a name brand and you will be good to go. they are rated in torque get one that matches your rating. if you have ANY thoughts for going for more power get a stronger stage.

i have had a spec stage 3 6 puck sprung, clutchmasters stage 5 unsprung, and now an rps single disc sprung. only thing i honestly felt to be that different between the 3 is the rps made the clutch pedal a little heavier, they have an awesome pressure plate thats why.

best bet for you should be something with a single (street) disc that is sprung. act hd/ss or rps street would be great for you. they both should hold up to about 400rwtq. the rps max street that i have has held up to 500rwtq but i think has a little slip here and there

Haha...make that ~200rwhp or so.

Stock clutch isn't so great for N/A power...much less turbo TQ.

...

I LOVE my ACT setup...street disc, HD pressure plate...holds ~274ft/lbs easily...many have done MUCH more.

I remember my stock clutch slipping with no mods. I am using a Z clutch now, but that won't last long under turbo TQ either, but it is inexpensive. Doing the job isn't hard, the hardest part of the whole thing is removing and re-installing the bolts on top of the bell housing.

I think the ACT clutches are pretty expensive. What other name brands are trustworthy without breaking the bank?

I saw some on ebay that were stage 3, 6 puck designs. Some said JDM, Nismo and Exedy I think it was. A few were only around $100 with the ACT's being around $350.

Anyway, the more the costs keep mounting the more I'm second guessing this project.

please dont buy a clutch off ebay!! Buy a named brand! You could prob get one from nico's sponsor's for a decent price. You will prob have to spend around 300 for a GOOD clutch

i lot of people jump into cars and tuning w/o knowing how much it REALLY costs. I know I did. I realize it now, after a year of researching. Yes it is expensive, but it is worth it- if you are really dedecated to what you love.

i personally trust EXEDY or OGURA CLUTCH for the cars ive had/worked on. EXEDY has clutches with a variety of torque ranges and good clamping force. very clean and very reliable setups for a price however. OGURA is even pricier, but their s*it lasts a lifetime.

ACT is also good because the torsional springs on their clutch discs are retarded strong. explosives aside, nothing will destroy those. good bang for the buck as well.

sorry but ill have to side with ACT as it hasnt let me down. HD/SS is the combo to get if ur goals are over 300whp. i personally went with the super street thing they have which i think is rated for 280. 6 puck i hear is more driveable than a 4 puck but rps or act as said before are what i would choose. price wise, just gonna have to bite ur lip and pay the 300. no way around it. going cheap on a clutch is probably one of the worse things to go cheap on. u dont want to be making good power only to see that ur clutch wont hold it.

For low power levels, I think the ACT street clutch is perfect. I absolutely love mine. Excellent, excellent feel--more aggressive than stock kbut not bad at all. People have used it up to 400+ hp too, even though it's one of their lower-power holding clutches.

Clutches don't hold power. They hold torque.

I'm running the ACT heavy duty pressure plate with organic disk. Held 311wtq on the dyno and holds it on the street.
