the car: 1992 Nissan 240sx. 172,xxx miles. 5 speed.

The problem: When I push in my clucth to start my car, the switch at the bottom of my clutch is not leting the car start. So for the passed couple days it have been not starting right(by this I mean. I push the clutch in and nothing happens. I hear the fuel pump come on and all the eletrict thing come on. Then I let the clutch back in and the deprees it an it starts.) Now I can push in the clutch and nothing happens. You can still hear the fuel pump and all the eletrical stuff works.

My question: Is there away to by-pass the switch or cleaning any contact points or should I just go buy a new switch?

Thanks In adavance. Dustin.

Yes you can have your car start without having the clutch engaged. It's not very safe, and I believe here in Canada it's a requirement when saftetifying a car.

However, since the day I've purchased my 93 Hatch, I've never had to push the clutch in once I don't understand the problem, and it never really bothered me.

So - Yes - to answer your question in short, I just don't know HOW to set it up. But I'm sure one of the NICO guys will let you know shortly.

well you know where the switch is right(look under the freaken dash)well a switch goes on and off right!?!?!well if you keep the switch pushed in it will start right....thats a connection...so you can bypass the switch and cut the wire going to it...splice the wires and connection them...to eachother and bammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm......i love not having to push the clutch....if your worried about leaving it in gear and turning the car on in gear....well thats why you use you hadbrake when you park...

Cut the wires and try and start it if that doesnt work then cross the wires. I Cant remember if the switch is NO or NC but either way it wont hurt anything at all. its just a safty switch and mines already been taken care of

I did it so I could easily run tests. Find a tap-splice (scotchlock, if you like) and crimp it down on both wires. That is it.

I understand the problem is solved but just in case anybody brings up this thread in a search.

I also had this problem about 4 years ago. The easiest fix, just cut both the wires going to the switch and connect them. All the switch does is complete the circuit thus you can just complete the circuit by connecting the wires. It does no harm and it's actually kinda nice not having to press in the clutch. You just need to make sure the car is in neutral before starting it.

Actually, I think as I have stated, the easiest fix is a scotchlock.

on the interlock switch theres a 2 wires right? one is for the ground and the other one goes to the interlock relay. So u just need to cut the wires and connect it to each other am i right?

its not a ground and relay, it's a switch in the current path. splicing the 2 wires would bypass it, but it is not safe because the starter can move the car even if it is in gear with the parking brake on.

i neva like read the stuff above but i had the same problem and its like a button looking thing. just go to ur auto parts store and ask for one of those things. the button thing clips onto the pedal.
