So it looks like my clutch might be starting to go so it's time to consider replacing it. I was wondering what clutch you all use when going up to 550 to 600 hp. Also I'm not a big fan of the on/off clutch which is on the car now, so is there a street clutch that will handle that kind of hp thats more daily driven friendly?

With the flywheel, I thought since I'm that deep in should probably replace it also. I was just wondering if a lightweight flywheel makes that annoying chattering at idle.

Thanks guys

We haven't had a chance to install it yet because I'm still in the middle of my engine rebuild but I got a Nismo Super Coppermix twin-plate for my R32. Lots of people swear by it for driveability including Sean Morris and it's rated to handle about 660 hp by Nismo. It's pricey but inline with other twin-plates and cheaper than a lot of others like OS Giken (we found my car had an OS twin installed and it was heavy as hell and was due for replacement anyway). It also comes with a flywheel as part of the package.

I just went through this two months ago. My GTR came from Japan with an ORC (Ogura Racing Clutch) twin plate and it was time to change it. The Ogura was unsprung so it definitely felt like an on-off switch which I prefer but opted for an OS Giken twin-plate and sprung clutch as the new replacement.

The OS seems to work just fine. Being sprung, its very spongy and traffic-friendly but the heavy throws and rev matching aren't quite as crisp since there's an obvious ease of which the pressure plate functions compared to an unsprung clutch.

I'm dying to find replacement pucks for the Ogura but nobody in the USA has inventory.

The annoying chatter at idle is caused by having a twin or triple plate clutch.

Most of the guys I used to run around with in Tokyo swore by the NISMO Super Coppermix. One guy had his 33-R pushing close to 600, and another guy with a 32-R just a hair under 700. Neither one had any issues.

+1 for the super coppermix twin plate.

It is expensive because it comes with a matched flywheel.

No slippage at all for me with 500 WHP and it is sprung and very streetable. Feels like a stock clutch, just with a bit heavier pedal.

Which is about par for a twin-plate clutch. You stated you wanted to go up to 550-600 hp and single plates are only rated to about 400ish so more power = more expenditure.
