I checked my installation for my clutch kit and everything was fine after I checked it and lubricated alot of the stuff. But now... Just recently when I try to shift fast it'll give me a little grinding! Like say I'm going from 1st to Second, and I shift really fast except I hold in the clutch, it'll give me grinding until my RPMs drop and then it'll go away. What the heck? Could it be transmission fluid/gear oil? Lubrication? This sucks. When I shift fast and let go of the clutch right away, everything is fine, it catches and boom I"m off.

Oh yeah, and waht does my crank position sensor do for me? I'm pretty sure I didn't have to take it out when I took out my transmission, what the heck!? Will the car operate without one? Can someone show me a picture!?

Oh and, this might sound dumb but which way does the clutch disc go in? There's two sides, the side that shows more of the springs, and the side that shoes less of the springs right? Which side should face the flywheel and which side should face outward towards the pressure plate? Thanks. And could that be a problem?

95 240sx.

ok assuming here you installed your clutch disc correctly. you need to check your pedal adjustment. When the clutch is in the released position (up) the clevis should float freely on the clevis pin with out pulling or pushing on it. [The clevis is the little fork that is attached to the rod pushing your clutch master cyl. The clevis pin is the little pin that goes through the clutch pedal and clevis] The adhustment on this should leave it so it rattles freely on the pedal when the pedal is released.

Now the crank position sensor [assuming your car is a 95 or newer] is mounted on the bell housing of the transmission between where the engine and trans meet. If you did not pull this component out when you did your clutch install you likly broke it. It is not used for engine control, it is mearly used as a moniter to watch engine speed variations to determine miss fires for OBDII requirements.

The clutch disc should be installed so the "hat" portion is toward the pressure plate. the flat side is toward the flywheel.

Ok, I just got finished adjusting the clevis, took her out for a ride and same thing happens. Now I know for sure my clutch disc is installec correctly.

Here are the symptoms:Ex: I'm in 1st + gas until about 3000 rpm, then I shift really fast WITH the clutch still engaged (down), and I can hear/feel a little grinding until the rpms come down (because clutch is engaged), it goes away. Same with all the gears, 2 to 3, 3 to 4, 4 to 5.

Any ideas? I really don't want to take it to a mechanic if I don't have to, because I'm sure it's not a big problem and I know they'll charge me alot.

if it was one gear I would say possible syncro, being its in all I strongly feel its the clutch is still dragging.

So what can I do about it? Will it matter if I didn't torque the bolts to spec?

Can you give me torque specs on pressure plate bolts? Thanks

What can I do about a dragging clutch? Would I have to get a new one? That would suck.

I am thinking you have soemthing installed wrong. your transmission does have the proper level gear oil in it right?

I guess I'll check the installation... Yet again. The gear oil I used is 75-80W, and yes that is the correct kind. I put 3 quarts in there, is there. How do I know when there is enough? Would not enough cause problems like this?

3 qts is pretty close to full. but the idea is to fill it till the fluid runs out the fill plug.

Do you know the Torque specifications for pressure plate bolts for my 95 240sx?

Could it be that my bell housing isn't bolted hard enough? Do you know the torque specs for the bell housing bolts?

Because I do get an unusual vibration, and I'm assuming of course that's a little mis alignment of something. And if the bell housing isn't bolted hard enough then it will be misaligned?

But either way, I'm going to take it apart 1 last time, check the installation again, and if it doesn't work out... I'm probably throwing her in the shop for a big waste of money. Gr...

as long as you tightened the bolts to the bell housing tight and the alignment dowls are in place that wouldnt be a problem.
