cluster question

hey guys,

fairly new here, just navigating my way through my first pathfinder.

i have a 2001 SE with 168km, but i seem to be having an issue with the tach spiking and the speedo sitting around 10-12km/h. Also i get 999999 on the odo readout. i took it out and checked the back and there seems be a slight black mark by one of the plugs like it is burnt.

i am going to try my friends cluster in mine to see if i still get the problem or if it fixes it. (his is a bush truck only, not insurable but he still needs it back).

Question is, if this does fix it, and i need to buy a new one, what years are compatible? i have seen a lot of 99's but they have a slightly different cluster layout, but will it still work?


Any help at this point would be great as its my daily driver and not seeing the speedo is a real hassle on the highway.

Hello and welcome. I'm also pretty new here but this forum is very helpful and has plenty of knowledgeable PF owners. As far as for your cluster question i believe 99.5 thru 2004 use the same cluster as i believe 99.5 or 2000 is the first year of the R50(chassis code) new interior. I personally own an 02' and was looking into swapping my oem cluster for a QX4 of similar years since they light up brighter with LED lighting. I'm pretty sure its a plug and play swap and all oem harnesses should be compatible with each other but hopefully someone can chime in with some more info or another link of said swap. Unfortunately, clusters changed from year to year, if only in the wiring and lighting systems.
You also have slight changes from model to model depending upon the options your truck is equipped with.
They are not plug and play interchangeable from 99.5 to 2004.
