Hey everyone i got a problem and need some advice. Hope this is the right place to ask, if not just move it. OK so here goes. Went home this weekend to put my new wheels and tires on. It was parked for a while so it didnt start up, dead battery. Threw a charger on in for a while and fired right up. Had it running for about 15 minutes and then it died. After some trouble shooting i found it was the alternator (I can watch the voltage drop and put two different batteries that both held a charge) so no biggy ill replace it. The real problem now is that my cluster didnt turn on nor could i roll the windows down when the car started. Only when i revd it up did it all kick on. My safc 2 works fine but my wide band doesnt (but i didnt wire either so idk if that helps). It seems that only after i rev the engine every time does it come on. Once its on it stays till the battery dies (car was in the drive way so i wasnt moving just lettin her run for a bit. I think it may be a lose wire but idk if that would really cause this. Has anyone had this problem before? I will be honest, i didnt search, didnt really know what to search so even some searching suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

O ya and the car is a 1992 240 coupe with a s13 red top and i have the hud cluster. Im back up at school now but ill be home in 2 weeks for spring break so ill have some time to roll the fenders and fix this.

Check all your fuses and relays. I had the same problem. It turned out the 75A relay under the hood was bad. I replaced it and everything works fine now. I'm pretty sure that relay is for the alternator. So if your alt. is bad, that would make sense.

When i get home ill try that, and yes that really does make sense. I appreciate the help. Ill actually try that first because there is no reason my alternator went. I mean i parked my car at my rents house for the winter and had my dad start it once a week. It worked fine until recently, then just one day it just would not start, slapped a new battery in and fine. Then when i get home to work on it the new battery wouldnt get it to fire until it was charged. I hope this works, im not looking forward to spending my turbo money on an alternator. Thanks for all the help!

I think the relay cost me like $8 on eBay lol. I hope thats the only problem.

Did I hear something about a turbo build

I really appreciate the help. I hope this is the problem too! By chance did your alternator not work as well or was it just the cluster problem?

As far as the turbo build, yes i really want to go top mount soon. I picked up a peak boost mani with down pipe but im stuck with what to do. My buddy, who i bought my car from, just put a rebuilt gti-r turbo from gpop shop on and im super happy with it. THe problem is its t2 and the mani is t3. I want to go bigger like gt3071r but i really like the response of this turbo. Not to mention the added cost of buying a new turbo, waste gate, and the time to install. It sucks because im in school right now, but with any luck i will graduate this spring and hopefully find a job so i can pay back the car, buy a truck, and then upgrade the power and suspension of my car. THanks again for all the help

My alt. wasn't working either. But once I replaced that relay, it started up and drove just fine.

for the peak boost mani, they're nice. I know what it's like not having enough $$$ for the parts you want to get. It took me forever to save to go turbo.

Anyways, good luck, and I hope everything works out.

More good news thanks! I hate waiting but i destroyed my jeep a year or two ago because i didnt want to save for the nice lift kit. Well twice the price of the lift in repairs later just to get it driveable and then selling it for less than i paid for the wheels and tires sucked majorly. I learned though so it wasnt a total waste lol. if you dont mind me asking, whats your setup? My first 240 i debated going ka-t but mine had 145xxx so i didnt want to risk it and just bought an sr. It was fun tearing it down, but i had to sell it before i got it finished because i spent a year in germany as an exchange student (also the reason i dont have any cash lol). Thanks again for all the help

It doesn't matter how many miles are on the motor. Mine has close to 168,xxx and it's still running strong

My setup is just a basic top mount t3 setup with a FMU. Stock internals, injectors, mafs. Running 8psi. And the best part is, I did it all for under $1000

thats sick. Well imo as long as you can enjoy what you have, it doesnt matter how much $$ you drop. Especially when money is tight, just having a running car with some power is a feat all by itself. Well thanks again for all the help and good luck with whatever is next for you and your car. Peace

not to beat a dead horse here, but what relay (blade number) worked for you? I went to murry's auto parts to pick one up. The guy had no clue what i was talking about and said there could be three different ones. A 5, 6, or 7 blade relay is what he suggested but didnt know which one it was. Being that my car isnt up here, and my dad cant get to it for a week. If you can remember great, if not no biggy. Thanks much!

O and worst case ill be home easter to look at it so i can pick it up the next monday, i would just like to get her running the day i get home so i can focus on other things like my spacers and fender rollin.

This is the relay I was talking about http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ories It's located in the fuse box under the hood. LMK if you have any more questions.

EDIT: My bad man, I thought it was called a relay. It's a fusible link. Sorry about that.
