is there any way to adjust the mileage on a cluster? i bought an analog cluster off of someone on here and the mileage is way over what my car has, so i'd like to adjust it TO what my car currently has!

you can do it with a small battery attached to the motor. Do keep in mind adjusting mileage on your cluster is also illegal in most areas.

when we were putting new gauges in a 280z..the ex-cop we were working with said if you have photographic proof that the new odometer is set to the mileage of the gauges being taken off, its technically ok..

heck, when you resell it..try sayin its got less miles than the odometer says..even with proof most people will think your bull****ting them because of so many lemons out there

who knows, hes like 60..things may have changed since he retired

Yeah, I was looking at a 92 Cherokee last week, and the guy said he swapped the cluster on it. He had a cluster in his garage that read like 160K, and the one in the Jeep said ~220. That would just be one more thing to have to explain to the next buyer if I ever sold it. And you do not really know how many miles have been put on since they swapped the original out.

Would have been nice if there was something in writing that listed miles on both clusters at the time of the swap, and a picture of the two side by side.

well jeeps are an exception to the rule..esp. cherokees

as long as you change fluids and dont beat the hell out of them..they'll run forevere, my 93 has 184k..only thing you hear is the clutchfan

you could probably get a document notorized for proof..

Yeh, it's illegal to change anywhere, Federal law. The legal method is to take the car to your state police with the current odometer still in the vehicle, get whatever paperwork they have, and then probably come back again once it's been swapped.

So much that nonsense.

So long as you're not trying to commit fraud and you do disclose whatever mileage difference there is, you're going to be fine. Last odo I adjusted was twenty years ago. Trying it on more modern stuff, I had no luck with it. I'd not heard of the battery method, but that sounds like the best way. They do all they can to keep you from doing it mechanically.

i tried pushing a key into there to try to adjust the knob looking pieces, but to no avail

i just decided to stop messing with it and install it. i plan on swapping the motor anyway, so the mileage won't be right either way!
