Hi everybody. I just finished my s13 redtop sr20 swap into 89 240sx. Car starts and runs only problem im having is when ever i turn on my lights the cluster back light flashes. Also when i take my key out of the ignition my check engine light stays on. i can disconnect the chassis side harness and the interior harness and it stays on. I also put back in known good cluster and im still having the same problem. the fuel gauge pings all the way to the top pass the full mark and keeps going till it cant go no further. also i did put in a ka24de cluster. I followed the frsport wiring write up when i did my harness. All help would be greatly appreciated as this is the only thing holding me up from driving it. Thanks in advance.

Odds are you have a power wire shorted to the cluster wiring somewhere.

The WS harness is great, but it won't address any problems on the main or interior or chassis harnesses. There's all kinds of weird problems that can occur in electrical systems, for just as many weird reasons. Really the only thing to be done is to grab the FSM and a DMM and start tracking wires down. Things-staying-on is usually a short, which can also cause something flickering if its an intermittent short. Fuel pump gauge skyrocketing like that also tells me a short. Pop your cluster (since that's where the symptoms are manifesting) out and follow the wires, look for frays bad connections bare wires broken wires, etc - follow the wires as far as you can, and don't assume that it can't be something. Better to check everything and know for sure. As for where the short could be, the sad truth of it is, "anywhere", or at least anywhere on that circuit, so it's kinda impossible to be more specific.

G'luck.
