Hey gang,

I just bought a 240 and was driving it back home but the brake light was on the whole way. I think the emergency brake is engaged. does anyone know if is electrical or how do to disengaged it?

it's a mechanical e-brake, check to make sure the lever is fullt released, i know i have thought i dropped it all the way but it was actually on that first loose knotch. if it is then the e brake sensor is probably stuck.

Check your Brake Fluid level, when it gets low, you can get the light

I agree w Bow, that happened to my car, put some dot 3 in and turned the light off. I wasn't sure that they had brake fluid level sensors till i looked and noticed it was low in the reservoir. E brake doesn't have a light.

Check the pads etc.. brake fluid shouldn't be lost unless there is a leak or your pads are worn down a lot. If the brakes look/feel good top it off and recheck it later on week etc. see if any fluid is loss.

I have the same problem with mine. I read the owners manual, and the e-brake light is used for two things: 1) to show that the e-brake has been fully engaged and 2) to warn of any potential problems with the brake system (ie low brake fluid). The manual states that if the e-brake is not engaged, and the fluid level is fine and you have inspected the brakes and they seem fine, then you need to take it to a Nissan Service Center (or any decent brake specialist). My brake fluid is fine, but I know I have to replace the pads and rotors (rear pads started sqealing soon after the light came on). I'm going to be replacing everything next weekend, hopefully that will take care of the warning light. I'll keep you updated.

wut it could also be is the lil green niple that makes contact on ur brake pedal is not touching properly

i had the same situation...and eventually my rear light stayed on as if i was braking, only to shut off was to disconnect the battery, so i just ripped out the lil nipple, double looped a zip tie for a while and then went to nissan to replace the lil gummie green looking nipple (1.13 thats after tax)

just throwing it out there... could be the cheapest thing to look at
