CLuster and speedo not working

I have a '91 240SX. The digital speedo, hud, and instrument lights works only sometimes. The tach and gauges are the only things that work all the time. I have pulled the cluster out, and I don't see anything out of the ordinary. A few of the other sites said that an after market radio can cause the problem, but they did not get into specifics. There is an after market radio now, and whomever installed it did a great hack job. I have looked over the wiring diagrams on this site. There are a few wires from the factory radio, that also ties into the cluster down the line, that are not connected to anything. Actually their are a few wires that have 12v, that are not connected to anything. I just need advise on wether this is the cause of it all, and how do I go about putting the right wires back into the loop ( if this is the case). I bought the car like this, and I am trying to get back into shape a little at a time. Being able to know how fast I am driving would be great.

Not sure on the wiring problem. I had the same problem but it was a wire that some how came out of the wiring harness that connected to the transmission. So I would check that out if nothing else worked.

i had the same problem i had the digital cluster and i would be in the freeway going 75+mph and at times it would go blank for about 5 minutes ill be driving with no mph on the cluster... this problem would go on for ever so i decided to check what the problem was and it was the wiring it was all lose and it wasn't connected right but i took that digital crap out and stuck to a regular old cluster....

is there a how-to on the digital to analog cluster on here? Cause mine dont work at all. the rpms and fuel are the only thing that work.

just replace it with another one then that one might be a piece of crap

i really doubt that it has anything to do with the radio im sure its just the spedo is broken....im sure you know that those are know for nreaking. Go to a jusnk yard and get an analog cluster from a hatch and dont forget the wiring harness that its commected to and put it in to your coupe. it takes all of an hour including the drive to the junk yard. it should only cost about 20 bucks. its a great thing to do its well worth the time and cost.

there are 2 harnesses i am told one with a white connecter and a black conecter. is this true?

All interior harnesses have a black connector and a white connector going to the gauges.
