Ok guys, I now own an SR20DET swapped 89 240 but I have a few problems with it. I knew that the gauges didnt work but I assumed that since the previous owner didnt swap out the cluster with one from a DE motor that that was the problem, but I was wrong I picked up what I can only assume is a can only assume is a Canadian cluster since it has both KPH and MPH on it from a 92 DE. That has been installed and still the speedo and tach dont work.

So I started looking around at the wiring today and found that the reverse lights are wired to a harness that was just laying in the fender well that has four plugs comming off of it, my guess is that he just wired it to whatever he had laying around, so my first question is where do the reverse lights wire into the harness. I have found a few posts with wire colors but I am not sure that the person that did this followed the normal swap color guidelines so I would like to know if anyone knows where to wire them in directly asside from using a toggle switch.

Second, the speedo and tach dont work so I was thinking of wiring the speedo directly to the sensor on the harness but all I see in the other posts is that it runs to yellow/green stripe. This may sound stupid but the sensor has two wires, what does the othe wire run to ?

Last, the tach doesnt work either so I was thinking of wiring it directly to the motor but I dont know what wire combos are used, I was told that it connects to the crank angle sensor but I dont know what wires I should be hooking up since the only wire I know is the yellow/red stripe, but I dont know what wire that would correspond to on the motor.

If you guys have other options let me know, going directly to the wiring to the ECU is going to be a pain because they didnt leave it in the sheath, it is just a bundle of wires with butt connectors splicing them

Any help would be greatly appreciated, cant get this car to pass inspection until I get this stuff fixed.

Ok, so after talking to someone who has done a number of RB swaps into these cars I was told that he normaly just wired the speedo directly from the sensor to the gauge cluster, so I am going to give that a shot, if it works then at least one of the three will be good to go. I will post my results either way. At this point I am assuming that one of the two wires on the speed sensor is a ground, if I am wrong, hope I dont fry it

No joy on trying to wire it manually, but it may be because I am mistaken on what the other wire is for if it isnt ground, I am hoping someone can clue me in if I am wrong, I ran the hot lead to directly to the yellow/green stipe wire going into the dash that connects to the gauge cluster as well as reversing the wiring just in case I am wrong one which one is which, I ran the other wire to a ground source. The only other thing that I can think of is that the other wire is a voltage source but I dont want to fry the sensor if I am wrong. I hope someone has had this issue before and can help me out.

Well, after being completly defeated this weekend I am going to break down and have a professional look at it. I found a shop that is ten minutes from my house that specializes in this kind of thing. I talked to them today and they said that they have done numerous SR20 swaps and are familliar with the wiring issue so it shouldnt take them more then a couple of hours. Hopefully she will be able to pass inspection later this week.

Well, I dropped the car off at the shop and they found that one of the three wires for the tach hadn't even been hooked up and the person that did the wiring had used differnent color codes for the speedo so they werent wired correctly. The reverse lights hadnt even been wired up and the connector was just laying in the fender well. In any case, I now have all three working so now I will know how fast I am going when I get pulled over
