check the diff mounts and the driveshaft center support bearing. it also could be the halfshafts or possibly the diff itself.

the center support bearing usually causes vibrations under acceleration and deceleration but it's worth checking.as for the clunking, you can lift the rear wheels off of the ground and place jackstands under the car to keep it safe and secure.then pull the e-brake and with the car in gear, hit the gas and let off quickly but lightly to load the driveline and get the clunking noise to happen.while one person is doing that, you or another person crawl underneath the car and see if you can find where it's coming from.look for parts that move excessively, and be careful not to put your hands or any other part of your body near moving parts.if all else fails, take it to a shop and have it looked at.

My '96 does the same... it feels like I have the slighest bit of play in the drivetrain. Any chance it's the u-joints or should I focus on the differential and differential mounts? Thanks

on your car, you probably need to replace the subframe bushings or install the bushing eliminator rings.that's the most common problem.

if you are hearing it mostly on bumpy roads, it could be something that is unrelated to the driveline.if you have an aftermarket exhaust system, it might be banging on something under the car.i had to cut the tow hook off of an s13 because it was really close to hitting the muffler tip after i installed a megan 3" exhaust.

Thanks, I appreciate the help. Do you know who carries the bushing eliminator rings?

Yes i have a aftermarket exhaust system and it was hitting on my bumper so i zip tie it so it wont move even a lil bit but its still causing the sound... do u think it has something to do with my rear shock?

worn struts can make clunking noises when driving on bumpy roads.on coilovers with pillow ball mounts, the mounts can make noises when the pillow ball is worn out.

Check your motor/transmission mounts. Diff mounts if you've an s14 or z32, the driveshaft support bearing or worn ring gear.

My car Clunks baaaaadddd.

Its getting worse, its obviously in the drivetrian somewhere since it only happens with the clutch in and making tight corners with a welded diff.

also sometimes with the clutch in going down Reaaallly bumpy roads.

now its starting to feel like theres an imbalance in the driveline somewhere.

IT ALL ADDS UP.
