Everytime I hit a bump, I get a big clunk or series of clunks from the left front wheel, im assuming this shock is blown, am I correct?

look at the rod that runs from you lower control arm to the lower radiator support. where it mounts to the lower radiatro support there is a rubber bushing. If that bushing is spewing fluid, it is bad replace both of them[right and left side] as a set. serch in 240 tech for "tension rod" there are several option for replacement beyond just the factory ones.

I had some clunking noises in my front suspension and it turned out to be the bump stops rattling around.

Just something to check. :)

My tension rod bushing has a huge crack in it, so im assuming its bad. But im not totally sure thats the problem, the lower control arm bushing looks fine, no leakage or signs of wear. Im not sure about the bump stops, do you have a picture of description of where they are? Any other things it could be, its like a clunking or thumping everytime I hit the smallest of bumps.

I replaced the tension control rod and bushings, and I still have the clunking sound, what else could this be? How would I find out the exact problem?

If your tension rod was not spewing fluid it was most likely not your clunk. its when the fluid pours out that it has movement. Being you had a large crack in it you most likley would have lost fluid somewhere in the near future. You could have a bad strut as you intiailly said. It is hard to determine what a sound is by description a one could identify a noise differently then another person. You gonna be in the sac area anytime in the near future or even south of sac?

Not anytime soon, it cant be the strut, I took a good one off my other car and the noise still persists. Im going to double check everything today again. I'll tell you if I find anything.

get the car back together with the tires on. with the front tires off the ground grab your tires at the front and back and try to turn them from side to side in quick short movements [dont need to turn it more then and inch in either direction] You are trying to jerk the steering back and forth. Do you hear that clunk? If so it could be steering rack end play or bearings loose. to determine which grab the tire from the top and bottom try to do the same thing as before but this time the tire should not move at all. if it does its bearings if it doesnt its probably your rack end play or rack mounting brakets. If nothing is felt its not that and you need to move on to another inspection. let me know if that turns anything up.

Ok well I did what you instructed, no clunk at all. There is a tiny tiny bit of play from side to side, but its barely noticible. I have no idea what this could be, there's a tiny amount of PS fluid leaking out the boots that cover the tie rods, because they are cracked, but I havn't had to add any ps fluid for over a month. I also try to wiggle the tire from top to bottom and I hear nothing. It seems like sometimes when I am turning now I can feel it kind of jerk the wheel back somewhat, and thats never happened before. Any more suggestions?
