clunking noise when turning

Hi we have a 2007 Versa that we have had since Sept 06. We love the car but I have a question about a noise that I hear/feel when I turn the wheel sometimes. It seems to happen at very slow speeds only. When I turn I hear/feel a very light clunk but it seems to come from the steering wheel as opposed to the front end of the car. I looked all over this forum but could not find anyone else mentioning it. I am hoping that it is simple and maybe someone else has experienced it. After reading this forum, I also have come to the realization that our car not starting the first time we turn the key is not an isolated incident and now know what that stems from. I am hoping for the same insight into our mysterious noises.

ThanksScott

Someone here mentioned a similar problem...but I can't remember who it is or when it was...

As far as the starting problem, take it in for warranty repair and when the car is there have them look into the clunking sound...

I was having somewhat the same problem, after about 7 visits to me dealer and countless parts replaced the problem continued. I filed for lemon laws, went to arbitration, and won!

well,

I posted the same thing a few months ago...I thought it was because I put some 18's on my car but no. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the steering shaft or steering column (I think this is how it's called in English).

Apparently, Nissan reviewed this part and changed the design to fix this issue. No more clunking noise...and I have a v.2.0 part...

Consult with your dealer and let them know.

What is 'lemon laws' exactly? Is that something in the USA only as I have never heard of that in Canada before...

I had the clunking problem. Mine was a copper clip at the base of the steering column. Somehow it got bent or something and starting getting caught "clunking" on the plastic covering. I brought it to the dealer for repair. As they were looking at it, it broke off. They recommend not even worrying about it or replacing the piece.

I have this issue since the first week I've owned it. At my last dealer visit to get the airbag connector replaced, I rode with a servie tech but was unable ot duplicate the noise. It seems ot be more common when the car is colder and you need larger bumps sometimes ot stroke the suspension.

My current theory is that it's either a bushing or linkage on the front antisway bar or it's a cracked engine mount (torque rod?).

I'm leaning towards the engine mount because on occasion at around 3500-4000RPM under full acceleration I get a loud resonance comming from the engine. It's kind of a humming ans rattling sound.

At my next visit, I'll have them check the engine mounts.

OK, I am taking it in tomorrow morning for the clunking and the starting problem. How would I go about filing a lemon law complaint? Do I have to get an attorney?

OK, I took it in this morning and they said my steering problem was due to a bent steering rack and they ordered a new one and will replace it this week. They could not get the starting problem to happen while they had it. They checked the fuel pump and said it was fine. I think it had less than a half tank of gas but I will check it out again. Maybe it will do it when I take it back this week.

All in all I am happy with the service I received and this forum has been a really big help. Thanks for the good info folks, I really appreciate it.

I get a slight clunking noise well I back out of my steep driveway and turn while in reverse. I think it in the extension of the MacPherson struts. It doesn't do this at any other time so far.
