for about two weeks now i have been hearing a constant clunking noise in sequence with the speed of the car coming from the rear. i just changed my rear hub/bearing today but sound is still there. could this be something else thats causing this annoyance. for sure its not associated with the engine. but im really stumped to what it could be wether its serious or not. i have a diff from a ca13 s13 with j30 five star axle. i saw some brownish grease seeping out from between where the axle attaches to the differential input shaft which when i installed them didnt have any kind of grease or lube i need this car to go back and forth to school and work so HELP PLEASE.

Could be any one of the following:- worn driveshaft universals- worn half shaft CV joint(s)- excessive differential ring/pinion backlash

alright so i put the car up on stands and drove it to fifth gear and let it run while i was in back listening. its coming from the driver rear. its not the bearing because there is no play when i shake the wheels back and forth. check the carrier bearing and transmission mount not that. the noise seems to be coming from the diff itself or the axle. how would i know if i chipped a tooth in the gears in the diff or if my axle joint is busted? when i drained the fluid there were no shavings.
