Ok Same story on 2 cars (1 Nissan 1 DSM).

I have change Suspension parts quite a few times so I know im not a newbie and i didn't left anything out.

When i changed my Blown OEM strats on the back for some used Koni Yellows, it started to make a klunk noise like when something is loosed. Everthing is tight as needed and i don't see any play at all.

I tought it was a bad/worn Koni (since they where used) so I bought new AGX's. After installing i notice the clunk is less frequent but still i can hear it when im going slow and hit a bump of potholes.

If I stiffen the AGX's the clunk is less but is harsh being at 8 all the time.

Suggestions? I have an S14 with around 80K bushings are worn but not that bad, The DSM after new OEM Struts the clunk when away A LOT.

Ok, so the clunk is coming from the rear? What it possibly is, is the same thing that happened to my 240, the rear sub frame bushings are worn out, so every time you go and shift gears the subframe is rocking back and forth, and when you shift harder, the sub slams in the back and front mounts, making an awful clunking noise. Basically a way you can check is to park the car on a flat surface, lay up underneath the rear, and have someone rock the car back and forth and watach the subframe mounts, and see it the subframe moves more than a quarter of an inch, if it does move more, its your bushings, pdmracing offers a rear subframe align and lock kit for like 60 bucks, worked out perfect,a nd helped the launch of the car, plus got rid of the clunking.

actually pdm has that kit of $75 i believe

plus.. my friend, who does alignments all day at a shop told me that i wouldn't want that lock/align kit as it would be extremely harsh for street driving ( i autocross, about once a month)to replace the subframe bushings it seems to be a major PIA

i experience, clunking/rattling from the rear when i am driving over uneven (rippled) pavement, and there is a weird snort-sound that comes from my rear right strut when i make hard turns. but that only happens occasionaly. but the rattling is common though. so not too sure what my problem is

(btw, i have agx's and sportlines)

It's more like metal hitting metal, I doubt is the bushings, because it did not did it with the OEM shocks, it did it a lot with Konis (wich they where on the way out) and it still does it at low speeds (when im not putting a lot of pressure on the suspension).

The wierd thing is something is like everything falls in to place and doesnt do a sound at all. i could be driving like that in traffic or whatever and nothing other days it sounds like hell all the time.

Does the strut assembly goes like this in the backNutBushing ------------ <-- ShockBushingMetal DiskBig Bushing with Mudguard integrated~~Schock~

hhahhahahah $hit~! You might want to check that assembly. I thought that was how it was supposed to be in my Sol, but then I hit a nasty bumb and the whole shock assembly shot out from the mount~! HAHAHAH, try driving home from the street races looking like a FOO cause your passenger side front is way higher cause its on the shock itself and your driver side is in place~! But to get to the question, i'm pretty sure that the assembly goes as follows:

NutMetal DiskBushingSHOCK MOUNTBushingBUMP STOPand the shock(Excluding the springs)

See, the purpose of the metal disk is to make sure your shock assembly doesnt shoot out of the top shock mount by holding the bushing and the nut together. The nut can easily push out and then your bushing pops up too. So, if I were you, I'd re-assemble your suspension setup and test it again. You should notice a big difference~!

PS - If I've got this all wrong, moderators, feel free to correct me! Just makes sense to me since all shocks/struts share the same setup ESSENCIALLY.

Let me know wassup~!

So you mean you have it in the correct assembly right??? Also note that you DONT NEED TO TIGHTEN the nut completely, this will result in ruining the shock. PEACE~!

I have alot of clunking. The front which comes from the TC rod bushings, i know this. and the rear when I downshift, but i figured it was just one of those things, anybody elses do it?, I never considered the rear sub frame bushings... Aleph1, when you say connected solidly, do you mean the endlinks? I put my swaybars in and havent drivin it yet, but the bars dont look REALLY firm, but neither did the stock ones.

Have you noticed if the temperature affects the presence of the noise?
