I've noticed recently a 'clunk' at around 1800 RPM when I first take off in the morning or after the car has been sitting for a while. Appears to be coming from the front somewhere and it occurs before shifting into 2nd gear. I don't feel any vibration through the steering wheel, chassis or transmission. If I don't touch the gas and just coast, it'll occur within around 10-15 seconds.

In searching other threads I've seen this may be a 'normal' condition due to ABS, VDC, etc...it almost seems to be getting louder (or that I'm completely obsessed with it now... )

Anyone experience the same thing?

Don't be obsessed with it, or you will start hearing things that are not even there.

I had service done on the car last week, and talked to the mechanic about that issue or similar to it. He told me that because of the size of the engine and the cold weather, that is normal.

Once I start the engine in the morning, 45 degree weather, the engine is louder than usual. But as it heats up, that noise kinda winds down.

I am not sure if what i the difference between M35-M45.

Sounds normal...What you're describing sounds like the ABS performing its self-check....
