Started my M45 today and got a cloud of blue smoke. Car otherwise seemed normal, and did not smoke anymore after starting. I don't recall this ever happening before. Should I be concerned? Car is still under Elite warranty.

Go do an oil consumption test. Look for this same topic on here for some additional info. If you go to the dealer make sure to check your oil level prior to them checking, some dealers don't have integrity. You might want to check your oil level now to be sure you're not too low. You can also add a catch can to prevent blue smoke. Since you're under warranty I'd get the test done at the dealer first just incase you get a new motor.

I had the same problem with the blue smoke during start-up. So i went to dealer, i had to do oil consumption test. After 1000 miles more than one quart was gone, the car was still under warranty, so the dealer replace the short block (thats how they called it )im my M. So far the engine doesnt take that much oil. And blue smoke seems to be gone.

I checked the oil level; it looked fine. I will ask the dealer to test for oil consumption.

I found this by member M4T5 in a similar thread:

"I had the same problems with my 07 M45. Its not excess gases.
Its the valve covers. My dealer replaced mine with the updated 08' valve covers.
They have different baffling to help elliminate the excessive oil consumption through the combustion chamber.
Basically the engine creates vacuum and pulls the oil from the crank case and then ultimately into the intake manifold.
Your engine isnt worn out nor are your piston rings bad.
It all comes down to a poor design of the valve covers that allow the oil to be pulled from them and into the intake.
That's where your oil is going.
My dealer replaced mine under warranty.
It no longer puffs blue smoke from time to time, and nor does it use oil in between oil changes. "

Any comments?

Thats basically what they told me. Also i had to do cylinder compression test which came out good. But i had to pay for that test $300 i believe.

do the consumption test first and then you will see what happens. Just measure oil level before you go to the dealer.
