hey everyone, i have got my stock turbo and everything off tonight, i have a brand new garrett gt2860r-5

i went to test fit it tonight and the inlet for my intercooler pipe hits the manifold..i assume this is where "clocking" the turbo comes into order????

i dont even know how to "clock" a turbo...whats the process include??

or does anyone know where to buy a manifold for ca18det because a top mount would solve this, no?, cant ever find anything down here in alberta to do with ca18det

any help is appreciated truly. thanks!

i just loosened the compressor housing bolts, but the turbine housing in a vice, and used a block of wood and a hammer to rotate the compressor housing to the desired position. It worked for me and clears my stock manifold. You may be able to turn it fairly easy, but my T28 is used and wasn't moving lol

okay thats what my current game plan was. these compressor housing bolts are just the bolts on the outside/inside of the housing. probably 4 bolts? or 6 to be loosened?

k so i have a few questions/whatever...

using my stock manifold - the bolts on the flange cant be removed

my turbos flange - has 4 holes, but they are threaded ( so i cant just insert the stock manifold flange bolts through) - both threaded :S

adaptor? - do i need some sort of adaptor to make these work together?

the turbo is or will be hitting my suspension rack/w.e you call it- so will an adaptor really even justify

EXPERIENCE? does anyone have experience using this exact turbo on a ca18det???

this is the exact turbo...

the bolt holes on the flange on the turbo are threaded? Never heard of that before..maybe just drill them out so you can fit the turbo onto the manifold then throw nuts and the locking tabs on it..

even if i were to drill them out, i would only be able to put 2 nuts on. 1 of them doesnt even go fully through, so that needs to stay threaded!@!#@!#@

so confuseddddddd

really need someone with experience on the same setup :(

i will post a ppic tmr when i can take one -cars at the shop
--
turbo flange - these holes are threaded holes, therefore need to be threaded in --if i drilled them out i will be screwed because only 2 out of the 4 have access to install a nut after the manifold is hooked up BUT

the manifold (stock) has 4 screws/studs - these studs cannot be drilled out nor ccan they work with my turbo because its impossible
to screw 4 threaded studs into 4 threaded holes at the exact same time. i think i am f*ucked!

Yea, idk where you got the turbo, but it's not right for your application. Every turbo I've seen has straight holes in it. I'd say you need to get your hands on a new turbine housing.

It says right on garret's site that the bolt holes are threaded in the third bullet from the top...

Ok, is this the turbo you have. This is my S15 t28 aka, Garrett GT2560R. These are pics of what your exhaust flange should look like. They shouldnt be threaded. If so, then somebody had tapped them for some reason. There should be 4 studs in the exhaust manifold flange where the turbo bolts up, these 4 studs should pass freely through the holes in the turbo flange. If not they should be drilled so that the studs do pass throught them freely.

Is this the turbo you have?

Notice the bolt holes arent threaded.

Image
Notice theres plenty of clearance between the flange and the housing for the studs/nuts.
