Well I parked in the outlet mall parking lot on my way down to LA, I go out after drivint 275 miles away from the mall to unload the car and my front passenger bumper is totally pushed in on the corner. I though at first glance this was wasn't too bad, but than I saw it pushed the hood up a bit and also when I was driving on Highway 5 I was noticing that the left light was a bit funny, kind of aimed wierd or something. I know that this happened there since the light was fine before this.

THis is a 97', I think this is going to be 2k at least for a fender bender. Man, the newer cars really dent, my old 84 Z can take a much tougher hit and not show the wear, than again I have no idea what the hell hit me!

Gee, merry christmas to me.....at least I've got full coverage, but 250 deducatable regardless....

doh that sucks big time. sounds like something big hit you cuz it messed up your headlight and hood. My car got hit in a mall parking lot a few weeks ago too. Right after it came back from the body shop!!! Some dumbass SUV driver hit the front passenger corner and took out the cornering light and dented the quarter panel. These soccer moms in their Excretions running their holiday errands...DANGEROUS...stay off the sidewalks.

Oh, damn, this is when I am glad I don't carry sidearms. The temptation would be too great and the satisfaction too temporary, and the ultimate fix would remain the same.

These cretins had to know what they did. Too bad there were no witnesses. Let us know how it is resolved.

I just came back from the supermarket.

Parked away from crowds and rifht next to a grass island. So I would be covered at least from one side.

Also parked as close to the edge of it as I could, so I would give tons of room in case someone wanted to parke next to me.

I just say buy the South African ant-theft device, the flamethrowers that go off when damage is recorded.

I feel your pain. Years ago, before I had the Infiniti, I use to own an Audi. I use to park it in a parking lot right beside work. The parking lot is in downtown Toronto and is also used by people attending events at the nearby Air Canada Center, Skydome and by people staying at nearby hotels. One day I cam out afterwork and found that my car had a smashed left side headlamp +moulding, scuffed bumper and damaged grille. It looked like some idiot in an SUV had backed up (by feel) and then driven away. I had $4k worth of damage.

What pissed me off is that I think I got hit when I parked away from the crowd and I backed into a spot kinda off the path but on an end!

I miss the days of little or no crumple zones. I t-boned a Dodge Shadow, that turned in front of me, with my '83 280z years ago. I was going about 10-15 mph went I hit the rear qtr panel. It crunched the panel, knocked the car sideways as I slid down the Dodge and took the plastic bumper off. The extent of damage to the Z was to wipe the red paint of the bumper with my shirt sleave. I miss that car!

People are so inconsiderate (why does it get worse during the holidays?) In addition to the I30 I also have a '94 Miata that's in pristine condition. I was out driving it on Friday night and stopped at the local Best Buy to pick up a DVD player. Now this parking lot had normal size parking spaces. Also keep in mind that a Miata is a very small car that is not very wide nor long. I love it for city driving because I can park it almost anywhere. Bottom line: it doesn't take up much space. I'm the kind of person who, if I get out of the car and it's too far off center in the spot I'll get back in and move it. Almost everywhere I park I can open the door all the way without hitting another car. But damn, if I didn't go back out there and find K-Mart rash on the passenger door of the car. It even chipped the paint. It's so inconsiderate that people do that stuff in parking lots. I know the damage doesn't compare to the damage others have received but it's the same degree of inconsideration that causes people to do this stuff. It's almost as if they do it because you have something nice. I usually try to avoid the SUV's (but that's almost impossible these days.) And I don't park near anything that I would deem unsuitable for highway use, but after you leave the car, it's out of your hands.

They are busy trampling over and killing people in their rush to buy $29 DVD players at Walmart for Christmas.

It was a zoo at the mall.

Dangerous groups:

-old PPL (avoid parking next to Buicks and caddy's)-Low socioeconomic status families (NEVER park next to a old and cheap minivan)-Mullets in pick-ups-suburban housewives in late model SUV's.

Sadly I just described 2/3rds of the driving public.:(

What's so infuriating about K-mart rash, is when you get the really large ones in an area such as, I don't know...the quarter panel. You know that extra thick sheetmetal behind the rear doors that serves as a stressed member on a unit-body vehicle. How hard does someone hae to slam their door into your car to get K-mart rash in that area? I'm wondering because my I30 has suffered this.
