Clipping/porting/high-flowing a (RB25) turbo??

Well my stock turbo is chattering :( so I'm guessing shaft play is more than it should be. I'm not looking for 400HP, just about 300 at the wheels, maybe a little bit more. More than anything, I want good throttle response and good mid-range power.

I've done a lot of looking around and it seems an RB25 turbo will give me what I need (slight power upgrade with better spool and mid-range characteristics), but it's a little lacking on the top end. I read on Meggala's site that these turbos can supposedly be high-flowed and modified to make over 300HP, easy. Does anyone have experience with this? Anyone know about how much I could expect to spend to get an RB25 turbo clipped and ported and flowed and all that to make better power?

More importantly, if I were to get the turbo high-flowed, would it be more advantageous (financially) for me to just get my stock turbo rebuilt and high-flowed, since it's extremely similar to the turbo on the RB25??

It sounds like you're better off getting a new turbo that is the right size than modifying another. I read somewhere that the stock turbo is not that great and a rebuild is already out of the question.

Is anything with a .48 turbine A/R too small? I know it'll hold me back on the top end, but like I said, I'm not looking for 400HP. If I broke 300 at the wheels I'd be happy.

I wouldnt suggest clipping/porting a turbo.. at all.. If anything, get yourself a nice T3/T4 turbo somewhere around .60 trim.. get the housings/wheels swain coated, and you will be good for 450hp.. AND wont have to worry about heating issues as much.

Clipping a turbo kinda unbalences it. unless its extremly precise.. cause its like a warp in your rotor, even if its only....

a few grams difference, it will still set it off balance, and you will throw off the turbo alignment.

OK, looking at a good deal on a T3/T04E, 60-trim compressor wheel, .60 compressor A/R, .48 (:() turbine A/R. The .48 turbine A/R is a little small, but how does this sound? Brand new turbo, 0 miles, internally gated, etc etc (a guy in the classifieds forum is selling it) The specs could be better, but I'm only looking for around 300WHP and good driveability; with tuning and fuel and stuff, could that give me what I'm looking for??

smaller exhaust wheel means it spools up faster, and you have a large intake wheel, so you can expect to definatly see quick spooling hp.. capable to 450hp
