"Clink" sound around cockpit area

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Has anyone experience this 'clink' sound in their EX??

It happens when turning, sounded like a piece of loose metal is hanging there, and while I turn (doesn't matter left or right turn), it will slide and hit another piece of metal, makes the 'clink' sound.

Check the overhead sunglasses compartment. I heard a "clunk" every time I turned a corner. It was my sunglasses sliding from side to side. The simple solution was to put them in a soft-sided case.

Good luck

My sunglasses compartment is empty tho, and I'm pretty sure the sound is comming from a lower spot (right under the steering wheel).

any thoughts?

I'm still having the problem, it only happens when I'm turning at higher speed. If I take the turn slowly, I won't hear the clinky sound.

I'm going to take it to dealer soon for the check up.

Hello all -

I get a single "click/tick" on speeding up. slowing down, turning, hitting a bump, or from nothing at all. It sounds as if its coming from the rear of the car, but over my left shoulder. It isn't a heavy sound (like from the undercarriage), but its as if there was something rolling around inside a rear door, the rear hatch, or ??? Three weeks ago I took it to the dealer and they said it was the cargo cover, and the sound went away - for maybe a few hours - and then it was back. So I took the cargo cover out of the car and sure enough the sound was still there, and it getting more prominent and frequent as time goes by. Its really annoying, can't be hidden by turning up the radio (I don't want to go deaf), and I am taking the car back this week to the dealer for them to look at it again.

What is the dealer liability if they can't find a solution? The sound developed after about 10K miles - the car was perfect prior to this. I have never owned a car that had this type problem, even when the mileage was pushing 160K miles. Considering the price, is it unreasonable to expect better quality than this? Or am I naive to think so???

Thanks in advance for any opinions/comments!M

Hello M,

My buddy drives a 2008 G35, and he tells me there's many noises comming out from the car, and there's not much that the dealer can/will do.

Best bet is too look for an solution/fix on the forum, take it to the dealer and have them fix it for you (That's what I plan on doing regarding the Ticking/Tapping sound comming from the passenger side, where the A pillar & windshield meets) Or else, you're just gonna waste your time going to dealer and end up with nothing fixed.

From my experience, the more money you spend on a car, the higher you expect.. When I drive my $2000 beater car, I never had any problem with it (Even the power window is not fully fuctional)..

Hi il911tw -

Left my car at the dealer for two days and they narrowed the noise to a defective shock, which they replaced. Right after pulling away, sure enough the noise came back - or should I say it was never gone to begin with. The dealer said the mechanics attached "chassis ears" all over the rear portion of the car on multiple rides and narrowed the noise down to the shock.

There is a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) related to noise from the rear axle (I think), but I can't get my hands on it.

Regards,M

Malex,

What type of model do you have? AWD, RWD.
