Well recently I've been driving in the Q and the climate control suddenly turns off. After a few minutes it comes back on and appears to be working fine. Today it was very hot sitting in the parking lot and when I started it the fan came on for about five minutes and then shut down. Pushing the buttons does not help and no air comes out of the vents at all. I have sent the unit to Jerry Tucker in the past (probably five years ago) to fix the display lights but this is more extreme. I'm assuming this is the problem with the circuit board on the climate control?

when the fan stops blowing, does the display also go blank?

Yes it's totally dead. No fan, no display, no air, nothing, just dead.

OK. I was hoping you were going to say display still lit up, then it would point to worn out blower motor {brushes wear down to create intermittant contact, then finally die} since your display also goes blank the problem is probobly in display unit itself or wiring to it- may want to try swapping display unit with known good one.

Yes I believe my best bet right now would be to buy a used climate control unit and see if that fixes the problem.

But this is not that problem. I got in the car yesteday morning and turned the key to the "On" position and the climate control turned on and lit up (car had sat over night in the garage). This problem is related to heat inside the vehicle. When the car sits outside in the sun and the interior gets real hot the climate control will turn on for a few minutes and then completly shut down. Does Jerry Tucker fix that problem? I thought he only fixed the display panel not working problem this is the entire unit stops working (no air, no fans, just completly dead).

Yes. It is an intermittent solder joint. Why it fails with heat, both ambient and under load.

All in the previous posts.

The normal display issue is NOT simply a cold solder joint. The previous post Brian mentions with a yellow circle super-imposed on a picture pointed to that as a theory, but I know for a fact that JT is replacing at least one intermittant part on the board... and that it's not capicitors.

My failure included intermittant compressor operation, which JT said was not something he could fix... so I think ordering a new one or used one is a good idea. I have been stockpiling spares from eBay for a while.

Rob, if you have time to play the ebay game you have a chance of getting a good one after a few tries for about $10 each. Of course, there are no guarantees on how long any of them will last.

The problem with any used one is that it is likely to experience the same failure, just a question of sooner or later. Your choice. If your compressor is working well when the HVAC display is functioning, I'd go with Jerry's fix.

Mine used to do that. When it was really hot, like 80+, the display wouldn't turn on. I ended up getting one off the board for $10 and it's been ticking for almost over a year now. If I were you, I'd just get the eBay ones. Isn't the JT Treatment like $100? Big deal if the eBay unit keeps failing, it'll take going through 10 of them before it stops being cost effective. (No, I'm not counting shipping in the $10 price.)

Not like it's a hard job to swap them out. I've got an HVAC that I pulled out of my 92 for the intermittent screen. A sharp rap of the knuckles would generally bring it back, at least enough for me to get an Ambient Temperature reading. Yours if you want it. Before I pulled it, it was working fine except for the screen.
