Climate Control Issue

I have a 2001 Pathfinder LE with the automatic climate control stuck in the defrost top dash / floor position. I can control the temperature and blower speed by chaning the auto and/or manual controls. The climate contol panel will display air moving from the dash vents, but air only moves from top dash and floor vents.

About 9 months ago, I had replaced the Fan Control Amp, part number 27761 - 70T03. (Great advice from zer...97456). The blower was stuck on high with no control at all of the unit even when the climate control was turned off.

I am thinking that I may have a different issue this time.

Doesn't sound like the fan amp. I remember reading about this issue in the service manual...

There is a motor that controls doors opening and closing, determining where the air is being pushed out.

I can send you the service manual section that deals with the heating and A/C. The diagnostic directions are pretty thourough. Drop me an email and I'll respond with a PDF file.

Yeah, it sounds like the problem is what Andrew said. The mode door motor might have just failed or it could be blocked/stuck. The auto HVAC unit doesn't know what positions the doors are in, it just tells them where to be; when one door motor fails or gets stuck it doesn't know and it thinks it's operating correctly.

Thanks guys, that sounds like a real possiblitly. I will check out the pdf since I have no idea of the motor/door location. I don't really want to start tearing out without a map. lol

Hey everyone, mission accomplished! First of all, Thanks to Andrew224 for the document, Pwnin O'Brien and SlickRoger for the pictures.

Turned out that all three motors were working correctly and I just had an issue with the Mode Door Linkage. The track needed to be lubricated and the linkage adjusted a little.

Cost of supplies: $3.99 for a small tube of White Lithium Grease $4.99 for a small first aid kit for the small cuts on my hands and forehead.

I have the manual climate control and the air mix button doesn't do anything (air is stuck on windshield defog mode).

Is the adjustment procedure the same?
