climate control doesn't turn OFF

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Now that the temperatures are down into the 40's I've noticed that the heat is either on or off. At 61 degrees it blows outside cold air, at 62 it blows cook-your-chicken hot. No in between, so I turn off the climate control. It continues to blow hot or cold air - whichever it was on when I turned it off. Has anyone else noticed this or is this something I need to have the dealer check out. This is extremely annoying.

it never happened to me before. The climate control will blow in tons of air to warm up the cabin but only with warm air, not hot. many my definition of warm is yours of hot

I drove an 08 loaner while mine was in for service. It had a very similar problem. It was either full blast hot or full blast cold. If you set it to 60 it blew out cold air, and 61 and above it blew hot air. I had to turn off auto and adjust the fan speed to compensate. But I haven't had the problem with my 09.

I haven't had any problems like that in my 2008 EX35. I just did a test; holding my hand up to the vent while I turned the temperature dial from 75 up to 90, I could feel it change temperature from warm to hot. To eliminate other variables, I did this with the mode manually set to blow out the upper vents and the fan speed set manually (I normally just leave it on Auto mode though). I'd say you should have your dealer check it out.

Thanks for the input, I will have the dealer check it out. I have done a temp test as well. The temperature does not change whether I have it set to 61 or 90. I have been compensating with the fan speed since the auto mode seems to blow at high fan speed all the time.

That fan speed behavior also doesn't sound normal. In mine, when on auto mode, the fan speed is low if the desired temperature is close to the current temperature, and the fan speed increases if I set the desired temp further away from the current temp. Also, if the desired temp is a lot higher but the engine is cold because it was just started, it seems to make the fan speed low until the engine warms up.

I haven't had that problem, but a sort of related gremlin I've noticed over the last few months - occasionally I will sometimes just turn the climate control off completely, hitting the off button. About 20% of the time when I then turn it back on (by just hitting the main knob, which turns it back on, and sets it to auto) I've noticed the temp on both sides will default to 60 degrees. It's not a huge thing, far from it, but it's just weird.

I am having the same problem on my '08... interested in what your dealer tells you as I will be bringing mine in for the same issue and roof rail paint is peeling off!

Blows cold at 60... then hot as hell at 61... its our daily commuter and my wife complains in the passenger seat all the time about, just thought it was the car but if your dealer corrects I am interested! thanks for the post!

Forgot this part of information... have you noticed that the issue occurs when it is between 35-55 degrees outside?

I have only had the car since june and have only recently started driving it (I drive motorcycle all summer) so it has always been in the 40's or 50's when I have driven it. I did a test on my way to work this morning and set it on auto at 62 degrees. It blew hot air with the fan on full blast the whole way (25 miles). It was at least 100 degrees in my car by the time I got to work, but the fan nor the temperature decreased. I have an appointment to drop it off at the dealer thursday. I'll update - hopefully it is something simple......

Got my car back from the dealer today. They discovered that the hvac hose by the steering column was not making proper contact. They resecured it. My climate control now works as it should. As an aside, they gave me another EX for a loaner and I noticed a few things different than mine (even though they are both AWD 2008's). My car gets much better gas mileage . My overall average is 24.6 and sometimes goes higher on trips. The loaner got 20, and I couldn't squeeze anything better out of it. Mine has much quicker pickup - the loaner had a lag when you gassed it to pass. My car has the luxe elite package and the seats are definitely more comfortable.
