Clicking/Tapping Noise In Front Of Head
Recently I began to hear a tapping/clicking noise in the front of the head on my 95 240SX. I had a mechanic listen to it, but he is not a Nissan Specialist. He thinks it is a timing chain tensioner and nothing truly serious, "Nissan motors are noisy," he said. I intend to take it to Nissan mechanic on Monday, but thought someone else might have an idea. The noise does not appear right away. Once the car runs for about 5 minutes, the noise apears. Revving the engine a little, the noise continues, but doesn't seem to really get louder. Prior to this I had done a coolant flush and refill, following the instructions in the manual and FAQ board. Heat works, car doesn't appear to be overheating. Don't believe I overheated the car. The noise seems to be towards the front of the head. Any ideas? Thanks.
Is it a hollow tapping sound? I had an arrythmic tapping sound from the front of the valve cover that turned out to be a bad upper tensioner. Removed both *upper* guides and replaced a tensioner. That really quieted down the KA. And, yeah, it's not a particularly quiet engine.candela wrote:tensioner or water pump exactly...

I had a similar problem with mine but when I checked it I noticed the guard was actually broken off from the wear of the chain hitting it. A friend of mine was able to weld and fix the guard, and no real damage done. I just wanted to add that if it's making sounds, from hitting it. It's very possible it could be broken in due time.
