A whili back i asked if anyone had ever had the clicking sound from theirtranny. Mine has been doing it since i have installed the rebuilt transmission. Before the rebuilt one was put in the old one did the same thing.I unplugged the TCU the other day when doing the self diag. testto make sure it was plugged in good and clean, and i noticed when the TCU was unplugged the clicking sound ceased.

Could this be my whole problem with the 3rd gear safety modeand reasons for clicking, maybe so , i dontreally know! But the clicking sure did stop.

Has anyone ever had this problem(the clicking sound) ? thanks, chris

This clicking sound seems to be a new one for me. I don't ever recall coming across it in the FSM or IOM.

TCU drives the 5 solenoids which could click as they were engergized and released.

IIRC, MinisterOfDoom described a clicking sound which went away when he replaced his TCU. Search for some threads in Q45 started by him.

Here's a thread about it:

Answers at last!

I was finally fortunate to have the car misbehave AND be able to take it to a dealer at the same time. Quick check with a Consult shows that the TCU is on vacation. Everything else "checked in" with the Consult, TCU did not. The tech did a quick check to make sure the TCU was getting power, and it was.

So, it looks like the TCU is the cause.
