I've been searching the forums to see if anyone posted this but can't find it.
I have a 1997 Pathfinder SE-original owner, low mileage, about 142K.
I notice this when I have my driver window down, so usually while driving through the bank, drugstore, fast food etc. so obviously I'm going very slow. It sounds like a click, click click-as the tires rotate. The dealership and tire dealer don't hear it, or don't test for it properly.
Has anyone heard this?

And yes, I'm a newby.

Thanks

I take it that the ticking is directly correlated to the speed of the wheels, and not the engine rotation speed, etc?

I'd say jack up the car so the wheel can spin freely. Spin it by hand and see if you can pinpoint the source. I had the same problem with another car and it turned out to be a brake shim installed backward and its tab hitting the spokes of the wheel like a baseball card.

Normally I would say that one of your axles is on its way out, but since the dealership and tire place didn't notice it then it might be something else. Odd.

Thanks atraudes and DAiNiUS,

I''ll try Jacking it up and turning the wheel. I'm not sure if the sound is related to the speed of the turn, but the only time I can hear it is when I'm going at a snails pace. It could be happening all the time but with wind noise and road noise I just can't hear it.

So much to learn, so many miles left to travel.
