****Update. I had the dealer check this noise and it was covered by a serice bulletin. I would say if your M45 makes any noise changing from "P" to 1st gear you are covered on this service bulletin. I can now put the car into gear and it is totally silent. Sorry i dont know the Bulletin#. Also the one click from 2nd to 3rd and then downshifting is gone******

The weather has just recently turned nice enough to have the car windows down all the time and I am hearing what seems to be new noises from the rear end.

I hear the loudest click when I shift from "P" to 1st gear. I think it may have always done this but seems louder for some reason

I hear a click in the rear end everytime the car shifts up or down into 1st/2nd and 3rd gears. Its not a loud noise or anything alarming that makes me what to pull over. Its simply one click as it shifts into these 3 gears and maybe even higher gears but road noise keeps me from hearing it if its there.

Any thoughts?

I'm sure the loud click/thump sound you are hearing from park to drive is the transmission disengaging the parking pawl. Are you parking on some type of a slight incline or decline? If so its best to also engage the parking brake to take some stress off the parking pawl.

The clicking noise from upshifts I am not sure. The transmission on my M is acting up also. Best thing to do is check your transmission fluid.

I also have a loud clicking sound (kinda sounds like i dropped a few empty cans of soda) when I go from "P" to Reserve out of my drive way. Its a very very slight incline, so i'll try the parking brake now and see if it goes away.

Kind of funny. I was at the traffic light this morning with all my windows down and as the car shifted into 2nd and 3rd gears I hear the click sound come back and started swearing. Just then out of my blind spot another M pulled even with me and it was his car making the same damn click noise at shift points. HAHAHA. I wanted to catch him at the next light to tell him but he got away

I am not sure about that Jankenpo. I guess you didn't do a elite extended warranty?

My Click/clank noise was much louder going from P to 1st gear in the morning and a noise you know isn't right. If you bought the car used with the click noise from 1 to 2 to 3 gears someone might even think it was normal operation.

Good luck

I have a brand new transmission and I notice this *click* or *clink* after about 1-2 seconds taking off from reverse to drive (i.e. backing out of driveway and leaving). This only happens in the morning and it obviously can't be something inside my new transmission.

I haven't had the car long enough to know if this was happening before my transmission replacement.

For me, this only happens on the first drive in the AM on my way to work.

Mine would make the louder clank noise going into first gear from park and then just a real subtle "click" noise going into 2nd/3rd gears. It would never get better or worse throughout the day.

The description for the repair was removing the real axle. No idea what they did besides that.

I'd just mention it to them if you go to the dealer for oil changes and maybe your noise will be covered in the TSB

Thanks for the TSB. I think we have enough info here to be easily found in the search feature.

I have an extended warranty just not the elite. Mine is some MPP i think is what its called sold by the Nissan dealer I bought the car from. I just have one infiniti dealer in town and I've had less that glorious results from them. Soon as i get caught up with other hectic things i have going on in my life..I guess I'll take it in. Prolly need to go dig out the warranty as well.

I just had TSB ITB08018 done, and now the manual shift is smooth as butter...very noticable difference!!!!!!! I would highly recommend it if you are still under your powertrain warranty

Does anyone have more information about TSB# = ITB08018? Everytime I google it, it brings me back here.

Does this TSB have to do with the '06 M35 as well? Mine makes a bit of a clicking noise, and the manual shifting is not really smoothe for me, especially if I shift at 4,500 rpm.

Not sure, but you should be able to provide your VIN and the dealer can determine is that TSB applies to you. My dealership didnt even need to actually verify my problem, they just checked the VIN too see if it fell within a specified range

So i just notice my M45 is doing this hard shift from 2 to 3 in manual. I do have an extended warranty and was wondering if anyone else had this TSB done and the results?

I would say you DO NOT have the issue I had. You couldn't miss my click/clank noise shifting from "P" to "D". It wasn't a gut wrentching noise but a nuisance. If you bought the car with the problem I could see people just thinking it may be normal.

I was beside a M at a traffic light w/ the same problem and I heard his click/clank noise when he accelerated and shifting from a stop.

The following is a link for the TSB

http://www.infiniti-techinfo.c...55209

I too had a clicking noise coming from the rear axle of my Y34... After I cleaned & lubed the splines on the driveshafts the clicking was gone.

Hope this helps

Does anyone get a loud click sound when they put their car in park? I've never heard any other car make a loud click when they engage park.

...bringing this thread back to life...

i recently experienced a 'clink-clink' type of sound when i would engage from Park to Drive, Drive to Reverse, Park to Reverse, etc...the noise sounded like someone was hitting a piece of tin with a metal tool or something. I was getting concerned if something was going to fall off or break...

I took the car to my mechanic and he was able to duplicate the sound when he shifted from Park to Drive, etc...he looked under the car and found that the rear axle bolts/nuts were loose so he went and tightened and re-tourque everything from the front/rear axles, driveshaft, differential, etc and he tightened things up regarding my suspension...

the noise is gone...thank goodness...

I'm not sure if more of you are/were having this issue, but it pays to have it checked out to avoid any future issues...hope this helps...

TSBs are normally only performed at no cost to you if you are still under warranty.
