My local Nissan dealer got in the color and style of a 2014 Rogue SV I was looking for and I had a chance to test drive it this morning. Since it was raining, I had the front and rear wipers on. One thing I noticed was that when the rear wiper was set to intermittent, I would hear a slight clicking sound coming from the dash area every time the wiper would engage to wipe. Is this normal operation?

Don't know about normal, but my rogue SL does it too. I didn't think much of it.

The sound is normal and comes from the BCM, there's a relay in there that turns on and off when the rear wiper is operating.

When running in intermittent, the BCM monitors the stop signal to know when the wiper has returned to its stop postion and turns off the relay temporarily, then turns it back on when it's time to wipe again. There are actually two clicks for each cycle, one when it turns on and another when it turns off as the relay contacts engage and disengage each cycle. The first click is usually more audible which is what you're hearing at each wipe.

When running in just ON, the relay only has to click on twice when you first turn it on again when you finally turn it off, since the wiper runs continuously and the BCM doesn't have to "pause" the wiper intermittently by starting/stopping the relay.

Ford 3 months I have a Rogue SV 2016 and also makes the same noise, my dealer says it is normal but I am not very convinced, I think that the first month I had the car did not make the noise, but I'm not really very sure.

Regards
